Carcoar Dam near Blayney south of Orange

Lovely drive between Dubbo and Orange on the Mitchell Highway, not too hilly with beautiful green vistas and not too much traffic. After 300kms I arrived here by 1pm but I did set off at 7am and had lunch at Macca's in Orange. Last time going to Geen's lake I went down the Newell via Parkes and Forbes.

This camp Carcoar Dam Camps6 #491 is in one of the windiest places in Australia, it must be it is sitting under a wind farm. When driving in you can see which way the predominant wind is blowing by the facing of the turbines and it is easy to look for a spot with a hillside between your camp and the wind direction.

It is a beautiful area right on the dam with dam water on tap, showers and flushing toilets but hilly and flat spots are not easy to find. As previously planned I intend to drive between 200 and 300kms alternate days and so will stay here another night, no hardship.  John

Looks lovely! I'm hoping to head to Greens Lake next week. It would seem all the best folk are starting to congregate there ;)

John I'd stay put there - go any further and you might run into those fires. Enjoy.

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea about the NSW fires. Looking up now I find that there is no danger here where I am or in the direction I will be travelling also the colder weather today will help those troubled areas.

Going nowhere today and heading for Bethungra Dam tomorrow.

John

Carcoar looks like a great spot - take care and be aware of the fires, even though it is cooler, they can still be burning. Enjoy your view!

Our view this morning is wonderful - the lake is sparkling, light breeze, blue sky!

90 fires burning across NSW, 30 out of control.
There are no fires near me at Terramungamine but still surrounded by smoke.
What a beautiful spot.

Yes, that and the last shot.

John has the knack of making photos interesting and connected to the story line, by including the vehicles, people and camping set-ups.

Thanks to John, at the same time for doing so.
