off to burra sa on saturday

I have the ford transit back all fixed tomorrow and leaving for burra free camp 7 216  on showgrownds (small fee) on Sarturday for a few days from there not sure but need to see how van travels after crash repairs.   If not too hot will travel through broken hill and then inland.

Maybe will meet some of you as this is my first trip, will place a photo of van on here tomorrow night.

Hi Helen - Burra is a lovely spot - the showgrounds are quite good - think it was $15 with or without power - the showers are locked, the lady who comes to take the payment gives you a number - but the toilets are open! Enjoy!

Helen, I have heard so many good things about Burra. I am looking forward to exploring that area myself. Do not miss going to local council for directions of exploring the tunnels underneath the town.
Have fun and good to hear you are finally out there and enjoying.

Great place. We had happy hour in the horse stalls. Do the self drive tour - $20 for the key at the Info centre then you get into lots of places around the town. Really enjoyed that.

A fantastic area to spend some time in, a lot to keep you busy for at least a week.

Some of places of interest beside the self drive tour is the old refinery ruins at Apoinga and can picnic along Burra Creek.

Don't miss the the boutigue cider brewery called Thorogoods.

Less than half hr drive away you can explore the Mongolata gold fields, when we were there part of it was still in operation.

Mintara slate quarry is very interesting to go and have a look, which is still operating after 150 years.A lot of the historic buildings in Adelaide was built from the slate from here.

Martindale Hall is a fascinating Georgian mansion built in 1891 (this was the mansion used in the movie Hanging Rock )

The historic village of Mintaro 2k from Martindale Hall .

We enjoyed lunch at the Magpie and Stump Hotel built in 8553 .

There is still so much of this area for us to see,so we will get back again soon

Oh don't forget the wineries !!!

Hey Helen

I was there last week and stayed at a nice free camp 16 kms from Burra

at Burra Creek Gorge. It's a fairly large council provided area in a bush setting with a Toilet.

I enjoyed 2 nights there.

Hi I too have enjoyed a few days at Burra, the folk around there seem very friendly, once I was there on a Sunday and rocked up at the local dog club, it was great! Loads of places to see, The rail trails in Claire are not too far away either. Enjoy. Annie
