I've had a number of root canals done - didn't need a specialist though and they weren't as bad as they're made out to be - a couple of treatments of about 30 mins each.

Same goes for me, don't know why you would need a specialist, but I'm no expert. I just know it took a lot longer to find the money than to have it done

I've had my first, and hopefully my last one done recently. I didn't go to a specialist, just a regular dentist.
I've heard of people paying various prices, so it may be a good idea to check around Milo. It does take a few visits and $$$, but in the end, it's better than losing the tooth.
I had a root canal and then crown about 2 years ago ..... never looked back ....... yes, it does cost a bit of money but thank God our extra cover on medical benefits covered it at that time. It was a rather lengthy process but well worth it and I would not hesitate to go that path again if necessary, but hopefully wont need to. Like many of our generation, I was a victim of the 50's a dental procedures and the dental hospitals and ended with a major dentist phobia as an adult, too scared to get problems seen to and lived to regret it. If you have problems, don't hesitate to get it seen to ..... I also had further problems and ended with gum disease which required a full day specialist treatment - mainly due to smoking. Needless to say, from that day forward, I never had another cigarette and I have been told I am the typical reformed smoker!
I know this original post is six months old or thereabout, so probably no longer relevant to that post, but relevant in in respect of dental health in general.
Ok - off my soap box now .......

I had that 50's dental treatment as well....bloody brutal and leaves a phobia about dentists. One good thing about back then was that it was pretty cheap to get a tooth drilled or pulled....no fancy stuff then.
Anyway, got them all ripped out at 58 and reckon I should have done that when 21.
