Really sorry about offering an opinion billeeeeeeeeeeeee, you asked the question in you heading for the post, you asked GOOD OR EVIL, if you don't want an opinion don't ask the question
cheers blaze
I am with you Blaze, I almost did a back flip when I opened that post and seen the destruction to that poor tree, it wont be long before it dies as that is one of the worst things you can do to a tree of any kind...And they wonder why these places get closed.
I also think it is blight on the local council or who ever has control over this area to allow it to continue...To me it looks like a shanty town....Oh I also must add that tree vandalism can be defined as unlawful destruction,DAMAGE or injury to any tree on community and public land. Under The Tree Management Policy a fine of up to $1.1 million dollars under the breach.

Wot Ya talking about - the thongs grow naturally on the tree. That's why its called a "thong" tree. In New Zealand, They call them "Jandals " Trees.I find it a bit strange that the tree grows them in different colours,though..........Bill

I just had to post there pics on face book and in one hr there was more than over 100 hits ..the replies where astounding from pathetic to just plain stupidity and even to the point of saying these people need reporting to the relevant dept So I guess all this kind of childish devastation to our land and what grows on it is another blow for Free camping.

They would be hard pressed to get $1.1,000,000 out of me.
If that's the case how come there is a very large thong tree at the Port of Echuca. The Shire buildings not far away.
This is no shanty town, just one tree.
All over Aus there are trees like this and not all thongs either, especially across the Nullabor I've been told.
Chillax.
Have you ever googled Thong Tree Australia? I just did. What I found was photos and stories of the very popular thong tree from all over Aus. Not one negative comment amongst the various feedback.
I also wonder if you have the right to take photos off our forum, particularly with people in them and not asked their permission, to put up on another public forum namely your facebook page.

Thongs nailed on trees don't do as much damage as stuff wired onto trees... that will definitely kill the poor tree in the end.
I've seen "bottle trees" too, dead trees with bottles hung upside down over the twigs. ... I spose its better than leaving bottles on the ground but better still would be to put em in a recycle bin!
Billeeee I reckon a person who hangs a thong on a tree must only have one foot, otherwise how can they spare a thong?

If they ever get to Greens or where ever nomads meet in this great country they should just migrate to the other side so they won't be offended by
1. Thong trees and other decorated trees around our country. I hope they never hang Xmas lights in their trees but then I don't think they would like Xmas anyway
2. Laughter
3. Consumption of the liquid of life (your individual choice)
4. Joy, friendship and fellowship.
5. Happy hour.
6. General advise on our way of life as surely anything we as nomads do would offend them.
For me, I will join Billeeeeeee, Jules and John and others who like to partake in some fun and friendship in our twilight years.
I think anyone who copies photos from this or any other forum and puts them anywhere else on the internet has to think about their ethics themselves. Would they like their photos distributed in areas they have no chance to defend themselves. Besides I think you may find it is illegal so perhaps more naughty then putting a thong or panties etc on a tree.
Regards
Brian
