I just had to post there pics on face book and in one hr there was more than over 100 hits ..the replies where astounding from pathetic to just plain stupidity and even to the point of saying these people need reporting to the relevant dept So I guess all this kind of childish devastation to our land and what grows on it is another blow for Free camping.

Yesterday I was going to comment on this story and say how much I love the lake, we used to take our grandsons camping there and they would love

to see the "thong tree".( I hope I get to take them again one day.)

But it scared me off when those negative comments came through....but then I thought "sod it"

Didn't our Dads use nails to build our tree houses when we were young??

I will have to line up at dawn as well now!!

Jan

herbie, my guess is that you are a member of the caravaners forum, if you are not you should be, much more your style over there!!! I am more a browser than a poster on this forum but when one put's this type of comment up it makes it hard not to reply.

I must say that I enjoy reading the antics of Jules, Billeeeee and John and all the others, I will one day get to Greens and hopefully meet some of you guy's and gals :)

Wot Ya talking about - the thongs grow naturally on the tree. That's why its called a "thong" tree. In New Zealand, They call them "Jandals " Trees.I find it a bit strange that the tree grows them in different colours,though..........Bill

Geez Billeeee... this is a big responsibility you've given me.... Dog whisperer, thong whisperer... Nah not qualified. Councellor, ditto. But "Tree Whisperer", yeah I got a Horti qualification, will that do? As far as I know, putting a few nails in trees wont kill them, unless they have herbicide on them, or some other toxic stuff. (Thong juice???)

Please people, don't put wires around tree trunks though, it strangles them.

Enjoy, wish we were with you!

Gerty , how do they get the trees to grow thongs? what sort of fertilizer do you use? I know a lot of bullcrap is used on this site by some horticulturalists, but to grow thongs in different colours, but that's astounding! Bill

Well thong trees and all the Greens experience is a wonderful one, great spot and certainly has the look and feel of a wonderful well kept and loved area by locals and travellers alike.
Have to admit it has a feel of being just a little slice of heaven here. Bliss.
In fact the stress of being in bliss finally got to me this afternoon and had to subcumb to a little Grandy nap, and now nearly time for happy hour. Does not get any better than this.

Hi everybody,
Thanks for your input into this one. I think everyone has had a pretty good say and I will close this thread down now. I would just like to stress again that it is important that we all show each other respect and courtesy even when we have a different point of view on a particular issue.  This is, above all, a friendly forum and a place where people should feel relaxed and happy. It’s great that we all have different opinions on everything from thong trees and tyre pressures  to van park prices and the best rig to travel in. It’s what helps makes this forum so vibrant, informative and entertaining … but what really sets it apart is our inclusive nature and our welcoming reputation. Thanks for your understanding.
