Mid North Coast, NSW

G'day. This week, PJ is booked in for a few jobs after which I thought I might skedaddle for my second shakedown here on the Mid North Coast of NSW. But it's holiday time and the area is packed with tourists as you'd expect. I'm hoping GNs with experience during busy tourist seasons can advise me whether to stay home till early new year or take a shot at trying to find a free camp before Christmas/New Year. I'd rather not go to the trouble of packing the camper only to discover there's nowhere to park.

GK the MNC will be the same as the SC we have already started to be inundated from the ACT and Sydney. We will as always hang off till the end of January when everyone heads back to work and school. In fact we head off down to Tassie in the 24th Jan School starts back I believe on the 29th Jan in NSW and 4th Feb in Tassie so hopefully the roads will start to quieten down.

Up here , it all depends on the weather. Its the wet season up here, aand we can get some really heavy rain.We had 22 inches in 9 hrs here , a couple of years ago. Love the sth coast NSW at this time of year. Will try to drop in to see you on the way thru, Gary. See you soon, Bill

ps  heres a pic of a queenfish I got this morning on 3kg line and soft plastic lure. It jumped 3 times.

My sincere condolences to the fish's family and friends, Bill, especially at this time of year. Looks like a biggie, though.

I suspect you blokes are right about laying low during the Christmas/NY madness. When I worked in Sydney, I used to drive from the inner western burbs over the bridge to North Sydney and back in peak hour, which was normally horrendous. But at this time of year, and through January, it was a breeze. Instead of an hour or more each way, it took about 10 minutes.

I just heard my name mentioned!

Now come on Mongrel, did I really say that about C1? I know I have been unwell for a few days but don't remember being nice.

All jokes aside though, Garry and Roxanne (C1&2) are very nice people indeedy and I tell you that for free.

GK, I intend to stay at Base camp till late January to avoid the stampede then heading over to the apple isle myself for a stint. Just hope no icebergs get in the way.

I must say that even here at base camp, South West Gippsland, Vic. is picking up the pace already as it is getting longer to find parking in town, bugga.

Just saw a bit on the news that following the fires in the Blue Mountains, businesses in the whole area are doing it hard due to cancellations in areas that were not affected by fires.
Its nice in that area in summer, might be worth considering a visit to Katoomba perhaps?

Thanks for the tip, Gerty. But I still have a few medical issues that keep me close to home for the time being. Two or three days is about the best I can manage at the mo.

Gary I wish you all the best with your health, and all I know is that life on the road relieves a lot of the stresses that may cause us to be ill from time to time.
Hurry up and get well so you can join the rest of us out here living life and having a ball.

GK hi

You live in an other beautiful part of this wonderful country we call Australia, I would suggest you head out though Wingham and up into the Great Deviding Range, do it slow like. One tank of fuel with enough left over for the next week should be good.

There is plenty to be seen at your back door,  free camps, fresh air and I guess by your statement in your post 3 days is good.

What ever you do enjoy, a merry Xmas and may 2014 be the best ever. Cheers

PS. It's always worth the trouble, there is no excuse.

Gary there is a beautiful spot at the bottom of the Big Hill on the old Armidale/Kempsey road -right on the river. It was a free camp last time we were there over New Year a few years ago - I imagine it still is.
