We recently purchased a Queen size foam mattress topping from Clark Rubber for around $180. We call it an Egg Shell mattress.
I marked the shape of our queen size bed with a nikko pen, and then cut the egg shell to shape using a electric bread knife. A standard bread cutting knife would be ok, but I guessing that it would not give such a clean cut as the Elec knife.
Must say I did a good job and we now get wonderful soft night's sleeps.
I have over the years slept on the road in various trucks as the need in my role as relief driver for a large transport company. One of my regular relief truck I drove the regular driver had one of those Clark Rubber mattress and I really enjoyed sleeping on it.
Now we own a not very old caravan, I found the inner spring mattress not to my liking, so we purchased from a major retailer a mattress topper for about $70 on special, now that's a great bed, it's the best.
It has fitted sides and is so easy to work with when making the bed, it has everything going for it. Cheers
We tried one of those egg-shell mattress toppers, it improved our caravan mattress greatly. But after about 9 months it needs replacing, so we'll get another when they are on special.
A comfy bed is a very personal thing too. What suits one, doesn't always suit another. It can be a costly exercise to buy what you think is a great mattress, then realise it gives you a backache. Happened to someone I know, then they had to sell it at a great loss, after it had only been slept on for a couple of weeks.
I have had the "Egg Carton" as I call them for years at home an in the Avan, best sleeps ever. Unfortunately due to a back problem that just won't go away I changed the home one to a "Woollen Magnetic" underlay and the back seems much better. Magnetic therapy works for me. I will keep the egg one in the Avan though.
I still have the Egg one but for probably for the same reason as Gerty it is going to the tip over the next couple of days. They get a build up of dead skin, yes dead skin and the rubber makes it very difficult to vacuum out, so out it goes.
Looks like I will have to stick with the magnets. You can't use the Magnetic ones if you have a pacemaker or similar items fitted.
Chastity belts could be a problem too

We have a memory foam ball mattress topper, that is almost like sleeping on a cloud - very comfortable.
Used to have an egg carton topper on the foam mattress in the camper trailer, mattress had lost a bit of condition, but the egg carton topper made such a difference - points up!!! - more comfort and support, and warmer in cold weather.

We used them for years in our vans as well (still do) Clark Rubber will also cut them to size for you if you have the measurements, I have also used scissors to cut them to size (use the solid side marked with a marking pen). Sleep with the points up, we put a light doona over ours then the bottom sheet. Spotlight stores sell them also, but not as good quality as the Clark Rubber ones (thinner) but a lot cheaper.
I am from Australia and comfortable bedding depends upon the material they used to make the bedding number of thread counts I believe pure cotton bedding is the most comfortable I have experience with many different materials bedding and I recently bought polyester filling bedspreads from https://www.rushk.com.au/bianca and Its nothing compared to the cotton bedding.

we have a magnetic underlay at home and another on the bed in the caravan and I cant believe what a difference they make.
Recently we spent a week with our daughter in Cairns and slept on a bed without the magnets and by the third day I was having trouble walking particularly when I first get out of bed.
I notice the same thing if we stay in hotel / motel / cabin etc.
We were introduced to our magnetic underlay by my mother in law who used one to help with her arthritic joints and we were lucky enough for her to buy us our first one.
There was such a noticeable difference for me that I bought a second one for the bed I used in the workmans accomodation when I was away from home. This is now the one in our caravan.
We wont be without our magnetic underlay.

We purposely ordered a 6 inch foam mattress with our caravan several years ago, firstly because of weight of innersprings and also do not find them comfortable. We found the foam just too firm so bought a 2inch Dunlopillo with damask cover and put on top of it, great investment for about $200-00 at the time. We have had a Dunlopilo matterss at home for about 15 years and it is just as good as that.
You will find most Health Care places use Dunlopillo
Have read about a new Aussie made mattress called Koala sounds good, have a Google of that.
