That was my earlier comment about Mandooran with pics but this time there were few flies and the temperature was hot.............  so much for 3 months later.

Arrived here at around mid day after an easy drive from Parkes and whilst setting up Rod (rover)arrived and shortly after Ross and Sue (??) rocked up. They had been staying at Gooloogong whilst I went to the Elvis Festival.

The Camps book suggests 72 hours limit but doubt that it is enforced, the local shopkeepers and the pub like the patronage. Anyway we will see because we are in no hurry to move north, Rod wants to be in Brisbane by mid February and it suits me around then to be on the Gold Coast.

See what happens over the next few days.

Seems like there's no formal parking arrangement in those places, so do you just plonk your rig pretty much wherever you choose, pointed in whatever direction you deem appropriate? I must be getting too used to shopping center car parks hehe.

Sounds like a place to spend a while John. Especially with company. And GaryKelly - you just park where you fit really - sometimes in ordered rows, depends on how many others are around .

Well that was Sunday and now it is Wednesday evening and it is hot and has been all week, nothing spectacular to report, have been into Mendooran several times with Rod in his Pajero. Not very far to walk but the heat has made walking a no no like buying soft drink in the pub on Sunday $18 for 6 cans of Solo.

 

Met a couple of single ladies travelling in Winnebagos heading for the Tamworth Festival and leaving Friday, they had walked down the river and found a deep swimming spot. They relocated further down and I went visiting for a swim, the water was cool but best to keep the mouth closed 'cos the water had a greenish tinge.

 

The general plan is to leave on Friday to catch up with shopping in Coonabarabran and move on to Premer Lions Park, have heard good things about the campsite so we will find out on Friday.     John

All sounds good, John but one question as I'm easily confused. To leave Mendooran, go north to Coonabarabran, then essentially south east to Premer (on gravel unless there have been significant changes since we left Gulgong) seems somewhat unusual to me. Why not head east to Dunedoo for shopping (probably a tad more expensive, but certainly far cheaper than the additional travel), then north via Coolah to Premer. All good bitumen that I've travelled many times. From Premer a good run is east via Spring Ridge to Werris Creek, then north via Currabubula to Tamworth. Have an idea there's a camp at Currabubula as well should you wish to break the trip. Much nicer than up to the Newell then via Gunnedah.

Patty the ladies are from Queensland so they are not the ones that you know.

Darrell looking at the Hema maps in Camps it suggests that it is not unmade but have not travelled it. We want to go to Coonabarabran and follow up by continuing on to Wallabadah via Quirindi looking at the map Coonabarabran is a bit north but then Dunnedoo is south. Thanks for the tips we will see how the road turns out.  John

Stopped at Mendooran in May 2011, let me tell you it was that cold I saw a dog stuck to a tree.
One of those variety bashes stopped at the pub, that was interesting
