I arrived home a couple of hours ago but wishing I was still at Laze Away. This was my first outing with GN's and what an experience. I was welcomed and treated as a friend and felt at home right from the start and indeed I now have new friends. Unfortunately I left my camera behind so no pics but I'm sure Vic and Wombat will post some pics soon.

If this is a taste of travelling this great country of ours, then roll on two years when I can be a full time nomad.

The GN's at Laze Away were:

Thanks Vic for organising the weekend and acting as my mentor, thanks to all the above for a really great weekend and not forgeting Mrs Wombat who was our skipper on the pub lunch excursion. (I'm sure you'll hear more of that as well). I was feeling very mellow on the drive back.

I can't wait for the next outing.

Mongrel, don't get carried away with the GTG being successful. Don't forget that it was Vic who organised it. Nah, just kidding. Good people and unfortunately it was quite warm when we arrived so those with vans stayed in the cool except those who stayed in a cabin, read the organiser, who stayed in the cabin.

BBQ on Saturday night was excellent company and a real chance to get to know everyone else. Sunday morning also involved a fair bit of chat. Amazing that the older Wombat gets, the better he was. It was good that his cousin, Sophie, managed to show herself for a while.

Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for your company too Bryan, Lynne & I greatly enjoyed ourselves with some people we had met before and some we hadn't, we will be more than happy to meet up with again.

Thanks to Dunmowin for the excellent Morning Tea at Pumphries Bridge and the contributions from others too.  Very nice.

Overall an excellent weekend which I hope will be repeated, maybe at a bit cooler time. smile

Agree totally and thanks to all who attended to make it such a great success and for the Pumphries hospitality of Dunmowings, also the visit by Jayco Gypsy and Chris (Cath and Chris) who went out of their way to call in and see us at Popanyinning, a nice surprise to see them at Pumprhies again when we all arrived there...

For the information of all who have been watching this thread. Understand that we were basically told that there was NO overnight camping at the Yoornaning Dam. This is why the Lazeaway got our business.

As it turns out at the dam there were 3 signs. 1 sign says that dogs must be on a lead. Fair enough although when we were there were 2 dogs, 1 Rotty and 1 shepherd, in the water and NOT on a leash.

Another sign warned about Ameobic Meningitis. Good warning if you had chosen to go for a swim.

The last sign, and the first you see when you enter the camp area is to state the NO CAMPFIRES BETWEEN OCTOBER AND APRIL. The inference is that Camping is allowed but you can't have a fire.

If they don't want you to camp there, why are there NO signs saying NO CAMPING.

Beggars belief that they would send out emails to say CAMPING IS NOT PERMITTED but would not put up signs saying CAMPING IS NOT PERMITTED.

Would make an interesting court case if you were there camping and the council got stroppy. Personally, and seeing I have very little else to do, I would see them in court. May test their mettle next year and camp there. Beautiful spot, could have been a tad cooler 'tis all.

Has anyone heard anything about undue publicity closing the dam to camping?   According to this thread some of us on here are aware of why???? (the Council told me it was because of public liability insurance, falling trees etc).  Is the undue publicity falling trees, meningitis etc or something else ? See thread below;

Thanks for setting the date Bryan, it gave us all the "push" we needed to leave our summer comfort zone at this time of the year, worked out perfectly.  A good roll up, a couple who said they were attending didn't turn up not sure why, but those of us who did attend had a great time. biggrin
