i wonder could anyone please help me regarding the bath mat shown here. It's old as you can see!! I've had them about 30 years so can't remember where I got them. Two questions please , firstly, has anyone seen them around? If so where? And secondly I can knit (basic) and wondering if anyone could suggest what size needles and how many stitches I'd need if I was to knit one?
Yes thanks, I have been looking in what I call the $2 shops and at markets, in a Victoria, but to no avail. I will however keep looking. They are just great for amenity block floors when on the road .

Sorry, I got one about 18 months ago, thought they'd still be around. You can also get soft rubbery ones from those shops which are rather good on C/V parks as you can rinse them off after being on some of those dirty floors and they dry very quickly. Can even use em in the shower if desperate!
Yeah they are woven but have a go at knitting one Gooba, got nothing to lose. Make a little test square...the bigger the needles the more stretchy they are, you might like it that way, if not knit it a bit tighter. Get your knitting yarn at the cheap shops too!!!
The rubber mats I'm referring to are ribbed, quite soft, I think they might be meant primarily as non-slip mats. Have seen them in fish shapes as well as rectangular.
Gerty , thanks so much for suggesting the ribbed rubber mats. It opened my thoughts to other options. I was just stuck on that nylon one. our town has 4 $2 shops, a Reject shop and Lincraft. None of the $2 shops or Reject had the nylon but they did have those ribbed rubber mats. What a great idea. Colourful, cheap, light weight. Certainly do the job for me. I did buy one card of the nylon at Lincraft to try it, but it was $4.99 for one card. I liked how it knitted up so am going to look on eBay to see if there is any nylon around. If not , I've got other options now. Thanks
Nelly, does it absorb the water? My friend is also looking for something like this. I told her what Gerty had recommended and she asked if it would absorb water., as she wants to be be able to step out of her shower to dry herself in her motor home.
No, not absorbent. Fine for drying yourself anywhere. Just run under a tap, give it a wipe to clean, and hang over the A-frame to dry.
Funny, I'm looking for another one and have tried 2 cheap shops so far without luck.
No it is not absorbent but as Gerty says low maintenance really. Sort of like the stuff you can buy to line your shelves but only the ribs are a lot wider (and puffier) and the spaces in between - hope that makes sense. I saw some for sale at "Dollars and Sense" cheap shop. I could look around when I next go to town - let you know if you would like me too.
Nelly thank you very much for your offer !! Very happy to say I've been able to pick up a couple of the ribbed rubber mats locally. They are so light weight I'm sure they will be great. I am knitting a nylon one for fun, if it turns out ok I'll send a picture.
Any of the Asian $2 shops in the Melbourne western suburbs have them I buy a couple a year, when they get worn I just throw them out. I have them at back door as I come in from outside, so get washed probably twice a week.
