My new fridge will be living in the back of the Territory and due to the lid design, it is not possible to raise the lid high enough to remove the basket for loading/unloading. I had a look around for a fridge slide but they ask from $300 and up so that was not on for me. The actual slides alone cost upwards of $100.
Anyway, figured I could make one for nothing with a piece of old ply, some old skateboard wheels, handle, 2 rubber feet, a short length of 5/16 rod and a few screws. Design is simple and it does what I need which is allow me to pull the loaded fridge towards me about 500mm with ease.
Basically it's just a plywood sled with an axle and wheels located under the heaviest part of the fridge and at the other end I fitted 2 rubber feet to stop movement on the carpet. I'll also run a strap back to the seat to prevent it moving too far. I've fitted some pieces of dowel to locate in holes under the fridge....this positively locates the fridge on the slide.
Good simple design Denis, well done.
When you add the straps to prevent it moving should do the job & you just saved $300.
Just shows you the power of positive thinking
Cheers, John
Actually Beth, that may be a good idea when we take the grandkids along - just attach a front axle and wheels and there you have it. Only good for paved areas but with the ballbearing skateboard wheels it would fly.
This is how I made mine, cut the Aluminium to size, and had a welder weld it together, simler to the Engle one,a little different.

That's what I'd prefer Lance, but possibly overkill unless I was going off-road. After raising 7 kids we still try to justify every penny we spend so unless I could make it for next to nothing we would not consider one.
Don't forget mine's dual purpose as Beth pointed out.
Hey what a great Idea.
Just had a thought.
Why not bolt a board the length and width of the bottom of the fridge on to an old skate board of the grandkids. Cost a piece of timber.
"The only crisis we have is an idea crisis."
Might give this a try.

Jay & Dee - that would make it even simpler but a problem then is that as the skateboard wheels are close together the fridge would not be stable and tip over....that's why I used a piece of rod to give it width.

Thank you for the idea of which I have most part here in my garage. Grand kids don't won't to play with my skate boards anymore they don't have brand on them, from toy box to my work bench in the coming weeks. Cheers.
Discovered that fridge has to be restrained in back of vehicle especially sideways as I had mine tip over when empty as I cornered. Now I know what the handles are for.

Hi Lance, that's a great looking job you did. You didn't happen to take any photos of the mechanism details did you. The latch and roller set up that is.
