Another weekend comes to an end.

What a wonderful time I have had here at Koondrook/Barham. It really is a little slice of paradise along the Murray. I wandered in here on Friday after missing a turn in Kerang and what a wonderful little mistake that turned out to be. Kerang was interesting and a nice little town, I did the historic walk around the town and spoke to some lovely people that had lived in the area forever. The most amazing group of houses I seen was a little row of miners cottages that had been bought up from Bendigo years ago. They were flat packed, transported up the road and then rebuilt in Kerang, and here we thought it was a modern invention, flat pack that is. Anyway after a lovely lunch at the bakery, it was time to find my digs for the weekend.

I drove through the town to where I thought the CP was situated only to become aware that somewhere I had mistaken the wrong road or turn somewhere. I continued up the highway, no where to really do a uturn and the traffic was quite heavy so just had to keep going. How wonderful that turned out to be. Arrived in Koondrook, had a bit of a drive around and decided it was a good place to stop for the night. The CP is lovely, small but good sized sites and nice green grass. There quite a few in as there was a Country music festival in Barham and a fishing competition.

I walked into NSW, yes finally I have left Victoria. I have to confess that the border is a km away and a most beautiful walk along the river. Had afternoon tea and walked around the small town. It is an oasis in the middle of nowhere.

Saturday I decided to book for another night and spent the day catching up on some house work and went for lunch at the little resturant over the road. WOW, what a meal, it was delicious. I ended up sitting in the garden there for about 2 hours reading my book and just letting time slip by.  Another walk along the river watching the boats going up and down the river looking for the best spot to hook the big one.

Sunday, ok another night to be booked and while at it might as well stay for two. Went for a walk over to Gunbower Island. Once again a beautiful walk through the bush down a well made walking track. The history of the island is marked along the route and the scenery is stunning. There is free camping on the Island, I would no go over there only because the roads are terribly corrugated and Miss Daisy would be shaken to bits, but it would be a nice place to settle in for a few days. Yesterday afternoon became very hot so not a lot done in the afternoon.

Today it has been warm again, so I decided to have a manicure and pedicure at the local beauty salon. Once again WOW, it was just bliss, it has been awhile since I have visited the beauty salon for hands and feet so for me it was a great indulgence.

Certainly the place is well worth a visit and to stay for awhile. It would make a good base it is only an hour from here to Echuca, Swan Hill, Deniliquin, so all areas covered.

CP is $25pn, basic but very clean. Managers are informative and friendly. Flat big sites and the river can be seen from where I am. Well worth gettting lost for.

Ok Wombat or RockyLizard do your thing with my pics. I have no idea why they have ended up upside down. They were all the right way round when I clicked on them to post them.
We are so lucky to have clever people on this forum that know what they are doing, because it is obvious I don't.

Sounds like you are having a great time on the road as well as taking time to keep us informed.

Thanks for that Sharon and look forward to our next catch up.

John
