Happy on road again!

We have recently installed two 12v 130AH AGM batteries because the old Yuasa ones are ten years old and failed completely late last year which caused us a lot of troubles. All foods in the freezer were melted and milk went off when we stayed in the bush during night though we had given our generator a good run before sleep. We have a good solar panel but still need a couple of big batteries because our small 12v Vitrofrigo fridge freezer does consume some power to run. The charger in the back of our car is a Redarc 1240 which seems to be working well to keep the batteries fully charged when driving. It took quite a lot of research to get it all connected though. We had a test run last weekend and stayed in the middle of nowhere. The batteries provide enough power for fridge, TV and lights etc...Really enjoyed the trip:)

Next challenge is to replace the brakes of our car. The car dealer is going to charge us $5,000 for the replacement! We decided to do ourselves and have ordered the brakes which are less than half of the dealer. Researches are needed before the installation.

Cruising Cruze and sarg, you are right, you'd think its for the brakes, plus new engine and gearbox, so we got a big surprise when it's just for a set of 4 brake disc rotors and new disc pads.
We've done it many times on various makes and models for a fraction of this price so we'll do it again ourselves.

I think when you go to a brake place that you get change back from your 2500 dollars
they really seen you coming that lot
you should name and shame them and return the the parts

that's my opinion

Best of luck

John

Thanks Australia-Kiwi and John for your information and suggestions. The brake rotors that we just bought are the latest Bosch design and the pads are Brembo and there are also a couple of wear sensors too. We got them for $1000 for everything. That means our labour is worth $3k or $4k hey!!!

I went to the car dealership to buy new front brake pads for my car. They didn't have any in stock so the salesman said he would order some in for me. That will be $480 Sir. What are you kidding? No he said then leaned across the counter and whispered if you go up the road to " such and such" you will get them a bit cheaper, we do if we need them in a hurry and can't wait for a delivery". Up the road I ambled. Do you have any brake pads for a ????????. Yes Sir that will be $88 dollars thank you.
