Another later model Caravan

Well we've done it again, yet another caravan, this is our 37th in the last 40 odd years.

We sold our last van the 88 Coromal, after a 12 month rebuild, then purchased the 97 Jayco

The old Coromal.....

The 97 Jayco, not as big as the Coromal but, far easier to handle.....

Now all we have to do is stick the "Grey Nomad" stickers on the back.

Like most caravans I buy, this Jayco looked O.K. but, I have since had to re-bush the entire under-carriage and fit new brake linings.
On the + side, I did get it at around $5,000 below market value, so even with the expense of repairs, it's still a cheap van and all good now.

James, I met one bloke with one that had a front kitchen, he had smoke coming down the sides of his stove exhaust fan hood, removed it and found that a piece of wood between the fan hood and the outer exhaust outlet near the door did not have a hole bored in it, so no exhaust fumes were escaping, so had to force their way down the side of the fan hood.   I had one like that too but in a different model Jayco.

Jayco have the best warranty around even after they have expired, but as they make the most caravans in Oz I think they rely on the public

a bit to be their "quality control" relying on their excellent warranty to sort things out.

Howdy Vic, Yes Our van has the front kitchen,

and the exhaust fan is open in a box which exits to the l/h side of the van exiting through a block of 6 louvers.

The first thing I look for in any van is the positions of the 12v lighting ,

because we spend most of the time free camping, this is pretty important.

I found that the only 12v lights in the Jayco, were in the two over-head lights and a couple of after-marked LED's over the rear beds,

but nothing over the kitchen area. confuseconfuseconfuse

I have since fitted a 6" 12v exhaust fan ( From a Computer ) into and beside the 240v exhaust fan,

also while at it , shoved in a block of 12v x 36 LED's beside the 240v light,

all the 12v system runs of an 140 a/h internal battery, now brilliant and no worries at night doing the cooking.  biggrin

Sounds good KJ, it has to suit your needs and I can see it is going to.

Good luck with it and happy travels, makes me feel like going back to a caravan again, LOL! smile
