question. can I run the waeco from the 12v on the dash only when moving.
should I also get a smart charger and what's the best brand.
thanks in anticipation
newcomer to all this
As far as I know frednme, if you have the campervan set up for your fixed fridge in the rear, it should already have some sort of charger for that (probably a Cteck) that charges an auxiliary battery while travelling on 12V, then that takes over when you are camped up, or If you plug into 240V then it automatically switches over to a 12V inverter to charge it up off that.
Have you looked in the rear to see if you have a spare 12V socket? If so that should be on the auxiliary battery circuit? If you use your dash one, yes that will switch off when you turn the ignition off and is separate from your auxiliary battery which will not. As far as I am aware, a techo I am not (had it installed by an auto electrician).
I just had an isolator and auxiliary battery wired to a Redarc dual battery system to run my Evakool Travelmate in an ordinary van (not a true campervan set up) and it was recommended by two of the techo's on the site (Redarc). Here is the thread on Techo's here, but remember mine was only an ordinary van and not a campervan and wired up like yours to run your fixed fridge and I imagine an auxiliary battery etc. http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t56887382/dual-battery-kits-for-portable-fridge-freezer/
You may only need to fit another 12V socket to the existing rear set up to run your portable (if there isn't one already fitted somewhere n the back), but be advised by someone who knows what they are talking about and how to go about it as I don't.
Suggest you repeat your thread on Techo's as as new one if possible.
