Observations of CPs.

I have observed in the last six months a little details regards CPs. Of course there will be exceptions to this of course.

What I have started to see is the following:- CP charging $20-$30 pn, the facilities are usually great, management friendly and fellow travellers friendlier.

CP charging over $30pn (don't do this too often), the money has been poured into playgrounds, jumping castles etc, and also lots of cabins, facilities are usually old and in need of refurbishment even if they are clean, management not as friendly in fact some darn right rude.

I do have to add that so far I have not been into a CP that have had dirty facilities, so that I have to be thankful for.

I prefer to free camp and sometimes it is just easier to go into a CP. Of course these are only my observations, however after speaking with other people here in Daylesford at a CP, it seems to be a consensus.

What do others think???

Higher CP charges are usually associated with caravan parks on or very near water of sorts. Eg, Gold Coast, Broome, Port Hedland and so forth. Playgrounds, jumping castles etc are only there for parents to dispose of kids while they carry on drinking and allow kids to scream and disturb the peace(my observation only). Depending on managers and not always owners, some can be rude and seemingly uncaring. I just wish ALL caravan park would adopt a policy to discourage people from walking through you site. People don't (in general) walk through your yard to get to somewhere, why to they have to walk through your site.

Gday...

I agree with much of your observation. Those charging $30+ are usually the least 'friendly/helpful' - perhaps because those 'running' the place are staff rather than the actual owners. While having 'extras' in these CPs the amenities have not usually received the same injection of capital.

Those charging between $25-$30 are more of what could perhaps be called 'typical' - good facilities albeit often old and there is usually only one 'helper' for the onsite owners and they are more likely to be 'friendly/helpful'.

I stay least frequently in CPs that charge $25+ and prefer to camp near and around small inland towns. Therefore when I am in a CP it is usually in one of these towns. These parks are what are probably "unrated" CPs, small, no facilities, basic amenities, with either an onsite owner who does everything or a 'caretaker' - resident or visiting. These parks seem to always be friendly and helpful. Price ranges usually between $15 and $20.

A good example of such CPs in small inland towns is Mungindi NSW or Rainbow VIC.

I have not found a CP with dirty amenities - definitely old and basic in some, but never dirty.

I think any time I have needed to be in a town of 10,000 people or more due to circumstances, the park has been impersonal, dear for what ya get, and rarely enjoyable.

I guess my experience and observations align with you Sharon.

We've stayed in what I'd call dirty parks - bins smelling due to not being emptied daily, toilets filthy from inconsiderate caravanners, toilet seats loose on pedestal, shower taps that you cannot turn on/off easily, shower heads that are clogged, insufficient ventilation in toilet blocks so every shares the smell.
All it takes for management is to walk thru the amenities say every 4 hours or so and check. We find that if we report deficiencies to the office they just say 'we'll look into that' and go back to whatever they were doing.
We note that if we stay at ones that are members of the 2 biggest mob, the amenities are of a better standard, but not always so. We have about 5 marked in our diary "never again"
Regards

Our experiences are similar.
we also often find that in the cheaper country town type parks we find that not only are the staff friendlier but also the other patrons.
Last week end we were at a small CP in Dunkeld Vic and had a great time and met some great people.

cheers

Mike

We found one in Esperance, at $37 per night, that was quite scruffy!

On the whole the parks in little towns are cheaper and friendlier, but sometimes you want to go to the coast or big towns so you put up with the price hike.

Currently at Yallingup Beach @$34p/n, beautiful! Lovely park, friendly managers, spotless amenities, and close to the surf so you can hear it at night. Ahhh! Enough to make me homesick!

C/P's are getting too expensive, recently was at one in Traralgon vic (for a club 3 day meeting) And it was $39 a night! Also it wasn't the best, in fact it was pretty poor. By the way it was very near the Hospital, If that gives you all a clue.

I remember staying in a caravan park once last year so I can't really contribute to the thread.

It was at the Lava Tubes and didn't have much option if I wanted to see the tubes.
