Rod has done watersking years ago in New Zealand and wanted to try again, his speciality was jump starting with one ski. That was with a different style of boat using gears to allow him to cast several loops of rope into the water and be at full speed by the time the ropes hit the water. That didn't happen leaving him off balance and part submerged when the boat pulled the rope. Not to worry Rod has had a long talk to the boaty and intends to try again later.
Talking about characters on the road we have met another one in Ric, he is in his early 70's and still working seemingly unable to avoid previous customers wanting him to do another job. He is a builder specialising restoring heritage homes to their former glory, he is in Wuruma after presenting an invoice for progressive payment and no funds were available so not working for exercise has walked off the job.
He owned a 44ft coach which is currently flooded in in the Northern Territory and was offered a deal that he couldn't refuse to sell it. He has bought another one and is renovating it in Abercorn small township near here, he expects that it will take until Christmas and over $200.000 to complete. He reckons that after Christmas he will hit the road again full time. He has been on the road for a few years with many tales to tell.
After all the news about rain falling on the coast we are now getting some light rain here, not likely to get bogged and still living at Lakeside. Catching plenty of drinking water so there is a plus. Had a couple of rainy days but today there has been sun and my batteries were topped up. Been cooking more lately and using all at my disposal, spirit stove, camp oven and microwave. About time you could say but cans, packets and cup a soup are easy and have supported me for the last 3 years on the road.
Funds are building up again with little opportunity to spend, but since I have been at Wuruma I have bought the anti flap kit and centre rafter, blocks and adhesive for the solar panel, cranking battery, camera and now have ordered a side curtain to match the front awning screen. All up around $1300 but with no petrol or accommodation costs that is easy in 6 weeks. Likely to move on by the end of this month having had a couple of months here aiming for another couple at Greens later. John
Bloody layabouts, why not be a real nomad, lol. Great to see you're still with us John & Rod. No baby as yet up here at Saunders Beach so semi comatose as well. Unfortunately not as thrifty as yourself, adjustable front shocks, DP chip for the truck & 5.7M telescopic 6.5Dbi aerial with magnetic mounts plus patch leads for both the phone & modem. Add on new AGM batteries for both the van & truck auxiliary & a reasonable outlay has resulted. Should be well worth the expense over time though.

Yes know what you mean me and Bill will hold up for a while in a place that we like and the money mounts up, just goes to show what you can do without if you have to enjoy your time. We have been travelling on and off for about 15 years now and love it even though Bill is now 82 we are heading for Queensland from Adelaide this year hope to start off around May, and get back about Sept or October. Maybe see some of you on the road travel safe.
Nice update, John, but I'm a bit disappointed that you haven't been giving the jaffle iron a run. That's first on my list when I finally get my new choppers.
Good to hear from you John - and Rod - we are at Bedford Weir - what a great spot - and I caught a fish yesterday - Billeeeeeee will most likely put a picture up today. Reception for phone and internet is a little bit erratic here, but at least we get some - pretty crazy when we are only 26k out of town, and surrounded by mines etc.
Stay well, both of you - take care.

Gary, oh yes the jaffle iron has been used with one of those small tins of shredded chicken curry and cracked pepper. As well as the banana and sugar option.
She decided she didn't want it, Jules. Who am I to argue. Congrats on the fish, hope you enjoyed it. My son & I went off shore. Couple of klicks the other day, caught a coral trout, catfish & red throat emporer. Damn they tasted good, even the cattie. Happy Easter to you all

Has Rod had his 2nd attempt at skiing yet John. Waiting for photos.
Hope you are both doing well down there and not coming to any harm all by yourselves.
