To keep the boss happy on our first trip north in a few weeks time I need to be able receive any of the TV shows she is into at the time during our trip. I prefer the stars with a cool bevy myself!
Anyway I dont want a roof mounted system, too much stuff up there now. So looking at portable systems which claim to be quick setup. We are based in Perth and would prefer to buy locally which probably provides better and quicker warranty etc. Service.
The 2 suppliers I have seen here is Itechworld who advertise everywhere but are located in Perth and the other, Access Antennas & Satellites with the Azure Shine dish. They both supply the SatKing vast box.
I would be pleased to hear experiences, recommendations and any advise on best portable systems.
Thanks Yuglamron,
I have found the posts you mention, this confirms my gut feeling when I visited the Itechworld stand at the Caravan show. This stopped me buying at the stand and looking for alternative. Looks like Access might be the go unless others post more alternatives to check out.
Thanks again.
Nigel
Hi Wombat, We are in Joondalup. Thanks for your recommendation. Cheers Nigel
close to Osbourne Park where AA is located, they will really look after you, I did not originally buy from them, did not know about them and had a problem and asked them and they fixed my decoder AND no charge, was only a settings problem.
Hi Moonraker, if you are going to be setting up each time you stop one peice of equipment that will stop you tearing your hair out trying to alin the dish is a digital sat finder. It's called SatPlus, model SF3239 and has to be the best thing yet in getting lined up to the Optus Sat. The finder comes pre programmed to the C1 Sat so you only see that one. So basically you need the compass to get you near it and the finder does the rest.
I have been using one for two years now and it has never let me down. I can line up the dish in about 1 min after setting up the dish on the tripod.
hope that helps

With ref to the Itech sat system - we have it but have not used or even hooked it up. We have the VAST Box to hook up and the bits and pieces that came with the dish (60cm from memory). I have noted over the past couple of years the negative comments about Itech and am wondering if we should cut our losses and move to an alternate system. Can you please tell us if the box is OK to use still which also came through Itech - we are registered and have renewed it regularly. It is debatable if we actually need the system at all as we prefer to watch pre-recorded series and movies when we want something to watch, or free to air dig TV when we can get it. No use stuffing around with the Itech stuff if it is doomed to disaster.
Thanks

no keep the gear you have it is mainly the prices they charge for the gear you get and their after sales service stinks IMHO
Hi Briche,
I'll ask AA when I go there next week see if they do the SatPlus, sounds like a good idea.
I can just imagine stuffing around trying to find the sat. with the boss breathing down my neck with 1 min to go to her favourite show. no thanks!
Cheers

The advantage I see with this one is you do not have to have the decoder turned on, just connect a coax to the dish and then this unit and when you have the signal it shows a picture on the screen of a tv channel, it is onlt then that you connect the decoder coax to the disk, another advantage is the price , compare both items

Currently at Dwellingup CB, the people in the van next site to us are using the Access kit and speak highly of AA.
Coincidently they demonstrated the Satlink 69033 to me this afternoon. It does make for quick sat finding and you actually see the tv picture. Good stuff will have to go get the kit and satlink next week.
Thanks to both Wombat and Briche.
Cheers

Did the people in the van next door set up your dish for you?

I'm going to get one today, I do have another two units from eBay but they are both analouge and have to get a digital, the one you have seen, I think connects to the dish with a short coax and the dish is then set up and you can see a pic on the satlink screen, is that correct?
Thanks KFT, they do say approx $30 shipping but still a little bit cheaper than AA, I'll still go and get one today at Osbourne Park WA because there is a case plus some other extras and I can go back to them anytime I need to.
So how did you go Wombat? get yourself a sat system?
have you got it set up yet?
frank
already have the sat system for a few years now, really pleased with the new Satlink and again AA know their stuff, they are the best sat guys in WA.
coming home yesterday on the freeway there on the side of the road was a sat dish waiting there for it's owner to return and pick it up, no tv for them tonight
Called in to AA on my way to the work this morning, bought their Sat kit including the Satlink 6933. Next thing is to register online as a traveller then all set for our trip north in a few weeks time. Will keep the Boss happy that is until she sees the CC bill, I bought a 120 Ah folding solar panel kit as well!
The guy at AA gave a full demo of set up and the Satlink so hopefully it should be all straight forward from the getgo. Although its good to know the supplier is not far way if needed, worth the extra few $'s.
thanks to all who provided their advice on this posting.

don't leave it until you go away to set up the dish, try it before you go away, you do not need the decoder installed just pull out the dish and connect your Satlink
