Ingham north Qld.

Had a big day travelling today all of 60kms from Rollingstone to Ingham. We had been told that a free camp had been created at the wetlands next to the information office so we rocked up registered at the info and were given tickets allowing us to camp over for 2 nights.

Only self contained vehicles are allowed so we had to carefully collect our grey water, in my case washing up water to be dumped in the dump point in the camp. There is a toilet next to the info office and it is locked by 5pm weeknights and 4pm weekends.

We were lucky to get camps backing on to the lagoon and we set up quickly, Paul took his scooter up to town to do his thing whilst I walked up to Coles just across the parkland. All very convenient just a short walk to the shops.

The camp is just by the Tyto Wetlands so this afternoon I went for a walk round the perimeter around 4kms if you count the 300mtrs each way to see the owl platform lookout. Got sucked in that time, was all enthusiastic to see and photograph owls but you guessed it there were no owls to be seen and I sat still for ages.   John

We are doing it tough here In Cardwell  , finding the experience  a bit too much,

All this travelling is very wearing  and tireing , not knowing  what. the next day will bring ,

The glorious sunshine ,beautiful beaches, shopping ,top camp sites.

so much to excite the traveller .

travelling up the North Coast is  a trip everyone needs to do .

our next destination is the Tablelands

cheers from Paul.

Getting back to the owl lookout platform I have since found out that these owls roost on the ground in the grass tussocks so I may very well have tripped over one whilst I was gawking up the trees. So I take it all back about there being no owls there could have been hundreds and I wouldn't have seen them 'cos I thought that all owls roosted in trees. I found this gem of information from a pictorial board about local bird life whilst I was walking the esplanade at Cardiff, needless to say I didn't drive back to have another look.

Good to meet up with Daryl his wife and Schnauzer, was surprised when he called me by name having seen my photo on the forum. I suppose that is to be expected when I appear a bit weird with my new feral look.

I will post tomorrow about our trip from Ingham to Cardiff and on to Bilyana where we are currently camped.    John

Back on topic. Hoot hoot.

No Doug didn't even see an owl.

Did do the Jourama Falls walk back in 2012 though.

Looking back I did rave on a bit but posted a couple of pics.
