New (?) Idea For Pop-Tops

Hi all, thought I'd share with you a modification to our pop-top caravan. We love the feel of a pop-top with the windows in the pop zipped down to allow the outside in, a cooling breeze in summer, the view of the tree tops  -  but, to let the light in when you're away in colder weather, as we are at the moment, also means a cold wind and/or rain being able to enter. So I visited the big green hardware store and bought some clear flexible PVC sheeting, cut it to fit in front of the mesh on the inside (held in place by the vinyl around the opening), rounded the corners and fixed electrical tape around the edges. It's brilliant, the best idea I've had for quite a while I think. Perhaps others have already done this to their vans, but thought I'd mention it for those that haven't already done it. When not in use they just go under the mattress. Safe and happy travels..........

Cheers,

Annie

Sounds like a top idea there Annie, it would help keep those wet wombat smells out too I reckon. They get very smelly in the wet smile

Hope you and Rod are well, obviously you are as you are out in the playground.

What a great idea Annie , thank you for sharing.
I have also been thinking of putting some of that aluminium insulation blanket stuff around the inside of the pop top to give some extra insulation in winter, would be interested if any one has tried that.

Whilst on the subject of pop tops, I've been finding it difficult to raise the roof due to a shoulder problem so I bought a 12v motorised scissor jack rated 2 ton on Ebay for aprox $75 and using a 20mm x 20mm metal post with a threaded and cushioned cross section about 200mm in length that screws on to the the top of the post for adjustment to meet the ceiling. All I do now is hold the post upright, press the up button and it raises the roof to almost correct height with no effort. I'm pretty happy with the result for an outlay of less than $100. I guess the jack could also be used to lift the van if needs be. Regards Eddy
