Thanks for the update Halfpint. I assume you have got some information from the "locals"?
Are you able to elaborate to what we already know?
If campers are already in there before 29th Dec are they allowed to remain inside the locked gate?
Will they have to de-camp before some time on 29th Dec and only be able to return on the 1st Jan after the gate is unlocked?
If they have to de-camp for the 29/30/31/1st I assume the "ranger" will be there before 29th advising? and 'policing' this.
Will there be a "ranger" guarding the gate on NYE to make sure the rabble stay away?
It is so galling ... our society is all AR*E up ... because of a rabble minority the majority suffer the consequences.
That same rabble will just be at some other 'unsupervised' spot doing it all over again - with no thought of anyone but themselves.
And people wonder why I live a life that is pretty much "all by myself" - I have no time for towns, crowds, boozers, pot-heads and inconsiderate morons.
Cheers - happy travelling and success in finding an alternative to NYE @ Greens - John

My question exactly - what if we are already in there, set up? If we pack up, we will move on - couldn't go to Aysons, that would be packed already.
Might have to camp up on the road in.
And, yes, why should a minority of morons be considered over people who behave themselves? How they will "police" it is another question that needs an answer.
Thanks for getting that info Patty.

My brother lives in Girgarre (5kms up the road from Stanhope) When I spoke to him about the closure he had not heard a thing but was not surprised when I mentioned it.
He is in the CFA and said that it would be an emergency services nightmare if something serious was to go down. They would have to call in personal from Shepparton, Bendigo and Echuca who would already be stretched in the own areas on that night.
Again I say. - a minority ruins it for a majority! I think one of the key phrases is "without authorisation" -maybe if we are already camped up, we can get authorisation to stay? Worth a try anyway.
Thanks RL for putting the clip up.

There was a report, and interview with local SES, regarding Greens Lake and its closure from 29 Dec to 01 Jan 15 on the main ABC radio news. (7.45am today)
I am searching for a web-link to the story and will post it when (or if) I locate it.
The authorities have apparently taken the action due to the activities at Greens Lake for the past five years that have meant the need to have emergency crews on standby due to unruly behaviour, fireworks and violence. The authorities are no longer willing to have resources on stand-by during this period just to wait until something very serious occurs.
It was stated at least twice during the interview that Greens Lake will closed on 29 Dec and will not opened until 1 Jan - the words were not actually spoken that there would be "no camping" during that period, but it was stated that "the Lake will not be available during that time".
I am unable to be at Greens for that period, but I do appreciate the aura Greens holds to those on the forum. I think perhaps those who are planing the upcoming Schoolies for Seniors from Nov onwards - and re-living wonderful NYE's of times past - should perhaps make some contact with local authorities, either through any locals they may know, or this info as posted earlier -
Telephone number for Stanhope Police - Bob Naismith - 03 5857 2507
[edit: I have been trawling the internet trying to find anything authoritative to confirm, or elaborate on, the Greens NYE situation. No luck - people have "heard about the closure" but not how "official" the closure is, or will be. Rochester, Elmore & Stanhope police stations are unmanned and the recorded message refers the caller to Echuca. Echuca police (at least the officer who answered the phone) had not heard if the closure had been confirmed.
So I have sent an email to Goulburn Murray Water who are responsible for the Greens Lake apparently.
I often camp at Greens Lake Rec Reserve. I have heard that Greens will be closed over the coming Xmas-New Year period. I have not been able to confirm this. However, I heard an item on ABC Radio news this morning that Greens would be closed 29 Dec > 01 Jan 15. Is this so? and if so, if I am camping there prior to 29 Dec will I be able to remain until mid-Jan (through the "closed" period). If this is not within GMW authority, could you please direct me to someone who may know.]
Cheers - John
