Photo198.jpgAt Rifle creek nth of mt Molloy on my wayto visit the nephew at Bamaga, near the top of Cape York. Bitumen to Laura, but dirt from then on . 700 klms of the peninsula development road, if fact. I hope the Courier and the new tinnie hold up. Its on a heavy trailer with Landcruiser wheels, and I have a spare. Will just take my time. I'm taking 10days off from the charter business. to get away from the terrorists, woops , tourists.In no hurry. Will post pics on the way. Bill

Been up quite a few times, tho not lately. Used to be an officer ona cruise ship from Cairns to TI (Thursday island). Some time ago.Lots of truck traffic atnight , here, at Rifle creek. Must be Cane crush season. They are growing cane at Lakelands now.Will be off to to Laura,early. Bill

The road wasn,t too bad so far, with good and bad patches.Dust is everywhere.As I can,t get to the ferry across the Jardine before 4.30pm, I wll probably camp at Flying fox falls.No real problems so far.The boat is a riveted steel rowboat used as a flood ferry at Coen. Will try to post tonight. Bill

Sounds a good trip Bill. Maybe use a better rust inhibiter next time and the bottom of your boat won't rust out. Keep your eye open for wombats though. They run wild up there just like over in the "wild west".

Photo205.jpgMade it the Bamaga, and sitting on the verandah having a beer with the rellies. The only thing to break was a weld in the trailer mudguard.The Jardine ferry was $145 for my car and trailer to go 200m across the river.I met the brother of my nephews spouse, and her mother Justas I got on the ferry.Amazing who you meet on the track. The track was a mix of good and bad.Bad bulldust.Got in everywhere,4WD territory and $2.28 for a ltr of diesel.Going fishing first thing tmrow.its Laural a lovely kid The other pic is Fruit bat falls, where I spent tonight beside the no camping sign.Will post some Photo215.jpgmore  pics. Bill

Wild cattle and wild pigs, but haven,t seen any wombats. Lots of horses wandering about.They get in the yard and eat my nephews vegies.Going fishing down to the mouth of the Jardine river today. Will post some pics later. Bill

Photo219.jpgHe goes fishing! went right down to the Jardine mouth, and to Muttee head , but there was no bait fish about and very little activity. Got a lot of small pan sized trevally and couple of small coral trout on soft plastic lures just south of Injunoo.Went down to the Seisia jetty, and beside catch a nice trout, I hooked a big shark which ate a trevally I had on. It was a whaler about 2.5 to 3m.Shark.jpgGoing out from Seisia tmrow. Bill

Photo220.jpgWent out to Bard Is, about 5 miles on the Gulf side from Seisia, and did well on the reef fish, mainly red sweetlips, and was cleaned up on 30lbs braid, so ,tmrow its 80lbs braid and, hopefully , will be able to stop the big ones. One thing of note is the price of things up here. $75 for a 9kg gas swap, and the same for a 30 pack of beer.There seems to be a lot of profiteers up here. Lovely weather, and lovely coral at Bard is. Will be going back tmrow. Bill

Went down to the Seisia jetty early this morn and did well .A 3.5kg queenfish, which was chased by a 4m whaler shark, but we landed it after a an entertaining fight.Vanessa,my nephews spouse, is going to make Numace, The Thursday Is version of raw fish with the fillets tonight.The  ferry to TI came in while We were there. $145 each return, up.                                                                                                                                                                                                     Photo224.jpgSeisia van park is $12 a night for unpowered site. They are a bit of a cross between a trevally and a kingfish,fight hard and jump allover the place especially when a big Shark is chasing them !Good eating when fresh.LOTS of them at red is. jetty.Bill

Thanks Bill, I did a bit of recreational trawling on the north coast of PNG, we used to watch our feet when we got those Pike's in the boat, mean looking teeth....hmm

Amazing amounts of herring around the jetty attract lots of predators. Mackerel, queenfish , trevally, and the sharks have learned to steal fish on lines . There was a small croc cruising past, also. Its a great place for a fisherman, butvery expensive.Will be heading south Friday.Got to do a bit of maintainance tmrow. Bill
