Hi to My Dog family out there, My name is Penny Im a pure bred Campdog(malteseX) and cannt wait to meet like minded Dogs. Mum is a bit worried on me using the bathroom on a lead, did you have the same problem and how did you fix it? The other problem is what do your parents do with you if they go shopping, such as grocery or clothes shopping, Mum can sometimes take a long time so she wont take me and leave me in the car so what do you do???
The first question when we got our 2 pups 5 years ago was, how do i toilet train them? Answer. When you feed them and they finish eating, take them outside and within 10 minutes they will do their poo. It worked and I still take them to a field or place where they do their whatever they need to even now 5 years after, when I stay at friends place first thing in the morning after they have their breakfast i take them out and have no problem, always take those yellow bags with you. Bit chilly now early morning but a good wake up for me. I m always welcome to stay at friends with my dogs dogs are a big and heavy 45 and 50 kilo weight. I know that if i take them out in the car or anywhere they dont need to go unless just for a pee. Give it a go and Good luck ! As for shopping I find a pole to tie them to, they are very well behaved and started training them at home tying up for short times .The public will give them lots of attention, a while ago I went to Woolworth in a centre where i tied both dogs to a bench. When I came out the big bouvier was sitting on the bench next to a lady cuddling her or the other way. It would have been a great photo and both lady and dog loved it.
Our dogs pee on cue. Always done this and it works.................. when you take your puppy (or older dog) out watch for when they wee, and immediately make a fuss, take your voice up a bit and say" go wee, good boy" Eventually you start to say it as soon as they put their nose down to sniff out the perfect patch....... it then becomes the cue and they understand what's expected. Always train on a lead if you can, but it doesn't matter really. If you toilet on a lead, find a grassy patch, or for boys a tree, post or something that sticks up a bit..............but walk slowly and watchr you dog so as not to drag him away from his duty once he starts. We have no problems toileting the dogs.

We don't have a problem with our dog weeing while on the lead. He gets walked on a lead around the block when we are home and wees so not a problem while we are away. As for shopping my husband and I take it in turn of going into the shop while the other one looks after the dog also have a couple of friends that go away with us sometimes and if we need to go into a shop together to look at something they hold the dog for us. You learn while travelling with a dog not to take a long time in shops.
My parents leave me in the 'van with the pop-top up & vents open when they need to go where I can't.
I have a long lead from the 'van door so I'm very happy.
We go for a walk any old time.
I just know when & where to go whoopsie etc.
Dad has bitter/sweet thoughts on where I go whoopsie though.
I prefer to go in some degree of privacy therefore I go under the 'van.
Problem is when we leave a spot Dad has to drive forward a bit.
Get out with a plastic bag & collect my leavings.
Dispose of said & move off again.
Oh. If we meet I put on a big show for the parents sake.
Once we get close I'm very friendly.
Enjoy the road. I love it.
For those who have a 12v outlet in your vehicle (ours is in the truck bed) we have a 12v evaporative cooler to keep our two dogs cool during situations that require them to stay in the vehicle. Works a treat. We also toilet them before going on any shopping excursions. We also have a small 12v heater which keeps them comfortable during cold weather. Neither run the car batteries flat.

Thanks for the advise,Im sure Ill need more as we go along. They have taken me to the markets in Alice and I pooped quiet nicely much to my Mums horror so that was great and Im now not lead shy but because Mum dyes my hair I don't get to walk far and people want to take my photo,( I could fund mine and the Parents trip ) or little kids want to pat me, so Im now a social little butterfly. So looking ford to meeting new friends ( the one with the long tongue looks good) As for the cold I have plenty of clothes but that evaporative cooler sounds good, Ill have to work on Dad for that (wont be hard) Dog friendly accomadation while we are looking for a nice caravan
Sorry, paw touched wrong key, as I was saying finding accommodation at caravan parks are dog friendly as long as I sleep in the car, so wont be happening, anyway its from Alice to Adeliade and then to Melbourne any advise on that one ?????
One of my dogs is a "rescue". He didn't do so well in the show ring so his owners neglected and abused him. The only obvious training he had had was to be a perfect gentleman while on-leash. Great I hear you say. Welllll.................. one thing a gentleman doesn't do in public is pee. It took months before he would pee without hesitation and obvious fear of being hit. Sometimes I would have sworn the whites of his eyes had gone yellow before he finally did what he had to!

Our dogs would know to go when we clicked our fingers. Used the same training method as Rip and Rosie. Also agree that if you walk your dogs on a leash they will get used to weeing and pooing. Never known this to be a problem.

Some great tips I will be taking into account when I pick up Daisy, my new pooch, later this week.
Being a baby of 8 weeks I will be able to train her from the beginning, toileting on a lead on command.
Hopefully I will be able to leave her for short periods in the van with hatch open and all 3 12 volt fans going.
One advantage of having Daisy will be to keep me out of long stints in shopping malls spending money on things I don't really need.
