Just driving a car - not towing? Tent?

Probably lots doing the lap solo - you will get some replies - welcome to the site by the way - heaps of information on here, ask questions, join in conversations, read ALL the sub forums (general, I digress, Greens, etc.) heaps of help available.

Welcome to the gang Des, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I have come across many Solo's and even couples travelling around the "Block" in just a car with small camper or even a tent.

However you travel, just do it and enjoy.

Hi Des - I see you are not far from Greens Lake - MidlandHighway, Corop. Why don't you come up for a drive and visit?

We are spread along the waterfront both sides of the boat ramp, and up in the tree line, good way to gain some knowledge!

Hi Des, a mate did the block a few years back, in 3 months (long service leave). A couple of times he came across a guy who had a short wheel base vitara. He had pulled the passenger seat out & had a bed along the left hand side. Just goes to show you can do it as simple as you like.

Cheers Pete

Welcome! I haven't been around yet but planning to. I'm going to Greens to stay a couple of nights armed with pen and paper. These guys are nuts!!

I travelled from Goulburn NSW to Darwin and back with a swag and 5 dogs. Great trip but only for the dry season.

Just came back from 2 months travelling in Tassie but took a tent due to the rain. Was too expensive to take the van.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Enjoy your life.

Cheers
Allara

PS Going to QLD in April

Whatever you do, DON'T book all your accommodation ahead for the whole trip.

A bloke I knew did that a few years ago -didn't want to get caught out anywhere!!

Bet he missed heaps of great places and was stuck in some real "holes"

Hi Pete - we had a guy come into Greens Lake a couple of weeks ago in a small Vitara, he was doing just that as well, sleeping in the car with the passenger seat taken out.  He is from NZ, has family over here, comes over every year or so, does a trip wherever he wants, leaves the car with family, goes home to NZ.

May be the same guy.

I like a few comforts though.

Why would you book - no booking needed in free camps!

I helped a guy from NZ convert a Holden Jackaroo into a sleeper,he also bought a builders trailer
and we beefed up the Aframe and other mods ,it has been in my backyard for
2 years now since he went back to NZ,coming back in March.
