Huskisson to Canberra

We are planning to travel from Huskisson to Canberra early next year. We are wondering which route to take that will place the least amount of stress on the vehicle for the  climb up the range.

We aren't seeking the shortest route just the least stressful. Any suggestions?

Hi Jean-Pierre
Turn off the Pacific Highway south of Nowra onto the Nerriga road. Turpentine Road has 8 k's dirt so you might want to take the sealed road further north if you are towing.
Go through Nerriga, beautiful new road, no worries, then turn off toward Tarago. There is about 2 k's dirt on this road, but they are sealing it at present, should be done by next year. Also the road crosses the Shoalhaven River at the Oallen Ford, which has a 5 ton limit. If you have a rig heavier than that, take the Braidwood road. (Its not quite as good, about 15k's dirt). at Tarago, turn toward Bungendore, then the Kings highway to Canberra. You can stop to have a look at Tianjarra Falls, also the scenic outlook from the rocky hill in the Sassafras area. We have towed over this route, its not too steep or difficult, and it is well used by Canberrans coming to the coast.
The ladies at the Nowra Visitor Centre will happily give you a map showing this route, they recommended it to us.

And we'll say 'ditto' to that. The road further north closer to Nowra is the BTU Road.
