Our Ranger Fitted Out

Almost finished now.... is that possible?

The next project is a suspension upgrade (if required)....

Now, to fill the drawers and find time to get away for a test run with the caravan hooked up behind.....ranger-a.jpgranger-b.jpgranger-c.jpgranger-d.jpg

the drawers cost $2569 fitted. This included the side panels where extra storage is provided. The second battery is under the passenger side panel and there is room for tarps etc under the drivers side panel. A lot of $$$$$ but I feel it is worth it to have things stowed away securely. The drawers are 1255 X 435 mm (full length)

Shut the front gate!

Nice looking Tug Mike. It's too shiny though mate, maybe a trip to Greens when muddy is needed.

sounds like a plan!!! (my only problem is trying to fit it in between grandkid's sleepovers and kids birthdays. Every time I suggests a date something comes up to stop it from happening. I might need to come away on my own smilesmilesmilesmile

Ken, as a matter of interest... what L / 100K do you get under tow?

Hi Mike'

It's a good idea to keep an eye on the weight when you start modifying. My 3lt BT50 has similar mods. With full fuel tank, 25lt spare fuel, 10lt water, (no bodies) it is 600kg over the kerb weight. Fuel economy went down 1-2 klm/lt after adding extras.

Cheers Pete

Pretty smart looking dual cabs.

I like the roof rack on the Pete's one, is that a trade brand and will you be able to put much weight up there.

They are so practical for roaming about.

Here mine, just love it. ,Ralph.

Hi Ralph. I decided against the full roof rack so I was not tempted to load up the tug too much. Even with what I can fit inside I am going to have to be careful I do not load it up too much. I think that the fox-wing awning is going to be useful but I am still not totally convinced I did the right thing adding it as it is weight and resistance that will decrease my fuel efficiency. In time it may be removed.

Hi Mike,

I had the awning off the side of the Land Cruiser on the roof rack. Used it once. Found the roof rack very handy for wood collection.

Hi Ralph'

I made the rack up myself. It started as 2 bars on the canopy. The side rails are attached to the bars on the canopy & the side rails support the front bar. It's based on a production ARB set up. I wanted the extra length as I carry a couple of 4 meter kayaks.

I think the bars on the canopy were rated at 70kg each. It's an EGR plastic canopy. I had to fit  support braces inside the canopy to support the roof rack.

2 kayaks only weigh 40 kg. I put 4 100mmx100mm hardwood fence posts up there one day. This made the car very unstable.

Cheers Pete

On my last trip, going over mountains and some headwinds I averaged 15.5lt / 100
Quite happy with that considering I am pulling around 2800kg and a bit in the back of the tub

I will be delighted if I can get that rate, Ken. The Prado was 22lt/100k (ouch)

Looks remakably like mine! I have a 2" lift plus lounge range tanks (145ltrs). Towing a 2.9 ton Lotus Trooper I get 750km + before I need to refuel. Worth thinking about.

Yes, our rigs could be twins... I have now fitted ClearView mirrors (black, not chrome). I will get the lift later in the year (once my bank account has recovered from the recent items). The long range tank is certainly another item on the long term list.

What is the ball weight on the Lotus?

Thanks... this is around the same as mine. I thought mine was a bit heavy but it sounds ok... I am certain I will need the suspension upgrade before I tow too far. I am 'land bound' at present and no plans to travel in the near future so I have plenty of time to get it done before I head off...
