Help Wanted Advts all discriminating…

I've done the usual trawl through the 'Help Wanted' adverts on the main page and they all want couples..

I am not a couple anymore. So all there nice jobs seem to toss me out because they want couples.  I am just retired not retarded/etc so why the need to ignore someone who is happy to help/work, just because they are single..

I was a couple once, but my wife passed on so I am a single. Not my fault nor could my wife do much about her situation either, then or now.  I just feel some of us willing ones seem to be side lined by the wording of the various advts in the Help Wanted.

Sorry to see your post about your wife I am sure she was a wonderfull woman cultana that's sad but reality for you
I guess it's a bit like trying to get a job when you are young where every one wants someone with experience however if I were you I would still contact them and see if they would take a single after all maybe no couples have applied surely one is better than none stay positive

hi cultana, Sorry to hear of your wifes passing. It must be very difficult for you. contact all you think would suit you. unless they want a woman (as well) for maybe babysitting, helping in the home and generally company for the lady of the house (as I have seen for some farm sits/help) I would contact them. if the place is empty and all you have to do is mind the animals and a bit of gardening and mowing I think one person is all that is needed. go for it. let us know how you go.

Cultana, sorry to hear about your wife. I would apply regardless. You never know, someone might say yes.

Woody n Sue, I beg to differ. You try applying for a job when you're fifty and see the welcoming responses.

Hi Nick. Sorry to hear about your wife - it sounds like you miss her greatly.........

Age is a problem getting jobs from mean stream sites - I know!!

But there are plenty aimed at, our don't discriminate against us oldies. Have to logged into the Grey Nomads job site - separate to this Forum - they not only want oldies, but most don't care if youre single (although some want a male or female due to the work required). Theres also the various harvest sites, including the ones run by the grain companies and the federal govt. There is work out there for single nomads

If you are looking at jobs for travellers they prefer couples as you get two workers for less then the price of two singles. There are things like 2 free sites when a couple only occupies one.

Hi Cultana, I share your frustration at the emphasis placed on 'couples' in so many areas of our society. I don't know if you're specifically looking for paid work but if you could cope with some volunteer stuff then Blaze Aid is going to be desperate for worker for quite some time to come. Here's the link (I hope) blazeaid.com/ - though it doesn't look clickable but you could try a copy/paste. You get free camping (frequently with power) and 3 good meals and a smoko every day. But the best bit is that you'll get to meet some fabulous people - many of them solos just like you. By the way you don't need to be experienced in farming work or even fencing - just give them a call (so that they can put you on the dinner list) then rock up - I promise you'll be made very welcome.
