Hi,
I'm a long time Lurker and I've decided to join. I'm in a camperred (?) up Landy and mainly travel up and down the East Coast surfing, and attending Dragon Boat and Outrigging Regatta's. I must say that I appreciate the travelling time as much as my water time, and I take my time. âºï¸
I mostly free camp as I'm a Solo and I find Caravan Parks ridiculously expensive
Hi Guys, a Dragon boat is a long thin boat where the paddlers sit two to a bench facing forward. They have two sizes, a 10 paddler and a 20 paddler. There's a drummer at the front facing the paddlers and a sweep standing at the back. They have a dragon head at the front and a tail at the back.
They are very fast and designed to go as fast as possible in a straight line, the down side is they're hard to steer with the sweep sometimes losing control and crashing into the boat they're racing against. The races are about 200m long and are over in under a minute. Fast and furious.
If it were running Outrigging would be the distance runner and Dragon Boating would be the 100m dash.
Very popular with the Ladies who dominate (in numbers ð) the sport. Big with breast cancer survivors (paddling helps with the lymph nodes or something) who have their own division with teams named with boob names.
If you hear of some racing in your travels as the racing is close to shore, loud and very entertaining.
Thanks Krusty, very interesting. I think I have seen "outriggers" stored on the sand at the Strand up in Townsville during my winter family stays. Interesting looking rigs.
