I. I dislike the practice of some so called reporters taking pics of all manner of so called campers parked in legal parking positions and crying foul....go back to the 'scenes of the crime' and prove they are 'camping' - then you have a story.

If there is no rubbish and no washing out etc etc and it is a legal parking space at the time (and if the vehicle is s/cont. does it really matter if there is someone in the back asleep or not? I have often slept in my s/c m/h kerbside in legal parking zones when visiting friends all over the place, why? because often I am unable to get my motorhome into their property, also I would rather sleep in my own bed and put friends to less trouble.....

The other point all longer term m/homers and caravanners need to start making is for many of us we are NOT on holiday, we are on a lifestyle experience, we do not need or want what most CP's are offering, for those of us travelling solo CP's can be very dismal places as most 'inmates' go into their units and watch tv rather than the matey happy hours that happen in camps.....and lets face it being 'camped' surrounded by high wire fences and squeezed in like sardines and charged ridiculous fees for the 'privilage' do not really appeal.

When the CP industry wake up to all these points and address them they may find they win a whole lot more custom.....most of us still use CP's a bit and we do remember who has been good to us and who has not!

Yep, I'm with Annie, Capitalism is where people buy products and services people want. If people no longer want that product, build a better product, or sell it cheaper. Forcing people to buy a product is some sort of Feudalism. This is Australia, I'm not about to crawl to my Master begging for a bowl of gruel. :)

Now why didn't I think of that! 2nd January I couldn't get a campsite, cabin, motel for love or money from Portland to Warnnambool. I tried! So guess what they all missed out on my money :) Lovely Dartmoor gave me a nice free camp, a lovely local man gave me some fresh fish from the river and a lovely local lady told me the story of how they are trying to save the tree carving which are deteriorating. I would not have been surprised if Killarney was crowded either.

I checked this backpackers out too on the 2nd January it was packed out and over flowing.

So consequence was, I did a lovely round trip from Dartmoor back to Dartmoor and then headed West looking for greener pastures.

Seems that no matter how much accommodation or sites are put up in these tourist beach towns they will be full.

Interesting the illegal campers in my town have just caused the council to put up signs over Christmas "no camping or sleeping in vehicles of any kind" or $110 fine. We don't want them camping here for free either regardless of their vehicle type.

I guess it boils down to supply and demand. More demand equals higher prices, less demand equals lower prices.
