Gary Kelly Update from the man himself..

Janary 29, 2015.  I'm in hospital again, this time shellshocked. Goodbye Odyssey. This latest lung infection is proving very stubborn to move. It can't be eradicated but it can be controlled with antibiotics. Together with my emphysema it has floored me... can't stand in one spot without becoming breathless. Can't walk more than a few steps. Can't go back home - too weak. Lost more weight too.

At first I thought it was all over... age-care home here I come... but there is a chance that my current treatment will control the infection to improve my breathing and ability to care for myself. It's all the hope I have left. After my discharge from hospital it seems I will be sent to age care for a 3 week respite before I need to make the ultimate choice - home or age care. If it's the latter, I'm stuffed. Age care homes take 85% of your pension which would leave me completely dependent on them for everything.

Sorry I've been slow in updating the blog but I've been confused and uncertain as well... and even now I'm not sure of what's in store. Wish me luck. BTW, Andres from the dental clinic visited today, whch was very much appreciated.  I've also had calls and emails from the GN forum. Thanks guys. And I understand TX Greg has been doing a Sherlock. Gary

Gary - good to hear re your health, from the horses mouth, so to speak. Please keep us in the loop, we will be up your way in the not too distant future, and hopefully we can get to meet up with you again.

Take care, do what the docs tell you - and wasn't that nice of Andre to visit you. As Sarg says, if you need anything, get in touch.

Sorry I haven't gotten to you sooner Gary, but things have been a bit hectic here for the last couple of days.  When the've settled down, it's too late to ring.

Will definitely call you tomorrow.  Take care,

Cheers,

Sheba.

Hey Gary .Mate ,we have never met but thats not relevant is it ! I have had some low periods in the last 2 months however one has to get on with it and look forward not bloody back.Gary you probably have no idea how many folk are concerned about your well being at this point in time. Please know that we don,t have to turn up to your hospital ward with crappy flowers and squishy grapes that we generally end up eating anyway for you to be aware that you have a huge following of nomads that truly care about your well being ! So we all hope that you take one day at a time and never say never and think positive for your future. For what its worth I am jealous as hell that you have so many well wishers .All the very best to you at this point in time.A fellow nomad John...

My sympathies to you Gary. Sounds so much like "pseudomonas" I had last year and nearly died from in hospital. Its a germ we all carry in the lungs and it lays dormant until triggered by another condition. Only hospital grade antibiotics can control. It can be controlled after hospital mate with tablets and nebulizers. I came home to not being able to dress or shower/sponge but its now 3 mths since I was released and can now do these things even drive the 4x4 again. IT GETS BETTER MATE!! Hang in there, you have so many mates in here rooting for you. I must say that I would have found it harder without my carer, thanks Sue.

Gary we have our figures crossed for your recovery and your return to home in the near future, let's hope you don't have to consider alternatives but if you do there is one positive aspect to aged care homes the majority of residents are female.

Get well soon mate

Ditto Gary, we have never met, but feel like we have , just reading your words of wisdom, take it easy and get yourself well, and get back on the road.

Cheers

Greg
