It has only just come to notice that there has been a "request for donations" for camping at Greens Lake.
I guess, as none of us refer to Camps Australia book any more regarding Greens Lake - as it is OUR 'home' - we have just never noticed.
Apparently, donations are accepted, can be made, at the Corop Store. CAW 7 has been in circulation for two years now so it is not like this is a new condition.
It is certainly interesting the store has not 'reminded' our mob of the expectation of donations.
Especially as some of our "royalty" camped literally at the Corop Store over NYE as Greens was closed.
Anyway, the attached from CAW 7 is for your information.
Cheers - John

I will call in to Corop Store and make a donation within the next week. I had no idea and nobody has mentioned it before, neither grey nomads nor the owners at the store.
It's interesting that it has snuck past us all. When I called in for my coffee and paper last Sunday, she even mentioned she had my phone number on record from my first visit.
I have not seen this notation befor .. However it is time to do the right thing and will make sure I call in to the shop and pay before
Hitting the lake
Leading by examples .. We do want Greens to stay open.

Shut the front gate! I was in the store yesterday and go in there on a semi regular basis, they know me and that I am at Greens but have never said anything about it to me. I have never seen a donation box there either.
I wonder if it might be toward the CFA in fact?

Hi in Camps 8 Vic site 426 it states Green Lake Recreation Reserve Camp Area 16 km W of Stanhope or 24 km E of Elmore. 1 km of dirt road. Donation please for upkeep of facilities.
I have already posted this on more than one occasion, the last time being yesterday. If you look at John's Photo, you will see that the name is GREEN Lake.
The place where Nomads from this Forum usually use as a meeting place is GREENS Lake, with an "S". The two are not too far apart, so unless you make sure of the spelling, you could end up in the wrong place.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Sorry Sheba. Yes it is incorrectly named as "Green Lake" in Camps book ... but all the other information regarding description of where it is and the co-ordinates for the GreenS Lake (OUR Greens Lake) are correct. It may be that the words stating a donation is requested is not applicable to the Green(S) Lake Reserve at the site shown in Camps book.
The one that is Green (no S) Lake (actually Green Hill Lake I think) is over near Ararat I believe which is some distance away.
Cheers - John

Ok Marj. and John. I apologise if I got it wrong, but when you guys first started using Greens, people were getting it mixed up with Green Lake, [no hill] On the map I looked at back at the beginning, they were not very far apart.
The only point of posting this information is to seek clarification. Is the "bible" correct or is it a misprint ?
I'm not telling anyone to pay a donation ... just trying to find out the facts.
Like everyone, I have not bothered to look at Camps book for info regarding OUR Greens Lake for years -we/I know where it is and all about it. So this revelation is new to me.
And I have already stated that if it were a fact, then why haven't the mob at the Corop shop mentioned it to the dozens of GNs they have met, and who they know stay long-term at Greens.
Cheers - John

It is probably the Committee of Management who are asking for the donation, this body consists of residents of Corop, members from GM Water, and Council.
If you ask at the shop, they do have a donation box - it goes towards paying for fuel for the mowing, toilet cleaning, and repairs to the septic system when people empty their cassettes having used chemicals other than the sodium percarbonate soaker products.
The Management Committee now have the information from CMCA re dump points, and will talk about the possibility of a dump point at the Lake, won't happen overnight, but it will happen eventually.

Whatever you want Doug -I usually put a couple of dollars in when I go in to the shop, and when they let us stay in the paddock and made us all so welcome, we all went for fish and chips, and bought our fuel as well. Got to keep the shop going, imagine if it wasn't there!

Not sure of your statement Doug. Who wanted to know where who keep the donation box. Were they asking you or you asking them? Will call in tomorrow and sort this out once and for all.

There is no donation box, has,nt been for years, the locals payed a couple of dollars to come here and no camping in them days. The box used to get knocked off. How do I know cos I hav,nt seen one .
Not seeing one Dave, does not mean there is not one !! -- However with HW on the job, I am sure we will get the true facts Tomorrow, Should be an interesting outcome, after all the posts this subject has generated
I have been to the Corop Store and asked all the relevant questions and got the correct answers, so here goes.
Firstly, they have no donation box at the Corop Store and never have had one. Hayley said many, many years ago, there used to be one out here at the lake, but it kept getting broken into and robbed.
She also said if anyone is putting g money into a donation box at the store it can only be for the Childrens Hospital as that's the only one they have.
Nobody has been asking for donations, no committee, no community, it is in the Camps Book from many years ago and has never been updated.
As we are now asking and I for one would be willing to give donations to get some upgrades done at the lake, her dad will put it to the committee when they meet later this month. They also have all the paperwork for a dump point being put to the committee later this month.
The water board says they can't do any upgrades as they have no money for it.
Hayley says they are quite happy to have a locked donation box in the store for Greens Lake donations which would be wholey and soley managed by the lake committee and all funds going to the upgrade of the lake. No one else will be able to use any of the money and also a request would be put forward for receipts to be shown of any upgrades using the said donations.
Hope that clarifies all questions asked and settles the debate once and for all.
I might point out here that Rocky was in no way saying there WAS a donation box anywhere and no one was asking for donations at any time. He was just pointing out that it was in the Camps Book. Maybe someone should contact the Camps people to get them to change. Unfortunately it will be another two years before it's changed as edition 8 is on the stands I think or at least not far off and way too late for the change in 8.
Thanks Rocky for the topic though, has proved very interesting indeed.
Looks like Corop will be on the country board come Good Friday and the Children's Hospital Appeal.
