Managed to scare myself silly yesterday by going up Jacobs Ladder on Ben Lomond. Cannot believe this road is access to the ski fields! Single lane, no where to pass - unless on the hairpin, up traffic has to give way to down - so what? - I would have had to BACK down the road!!!! No safety barriers. I do not have a good head for heights and the lookout was almost too much but did creep out and take a couple of photos. Thank goodness there was no traffic at the time, and the rest of the road is fine. Wont do anything like that again - dont care how amazing the view is!!!!nodisbelief No signs warning about the road - hope Motorhomes dont try it!

Have finally found some flat land in TAS - Launceston south then east to Fingal. found the town camp and managed to get on one of the 2 powered sites. bitterly cold wind again and fresh dusting of snow on the mountains. They are less than 100km for the Lefroy fires.

Some road all right. Went up there 8-10 years ago and had a ball. My wife started the Video Camera at the bottom on the way up and again on the way own. Not towing of course.

I never took my eyes off the road and both hands on the wheel.

They tell me cars and small busses go up the "Jacob's Ladder" even in winter. I would do it again but I think my Minister for War and Financial Advisor would wait at the bus stop at the bottom.

Loved Tassie, especially those oysters. And had a good go at the trout. The most friendly people in Australia.

Would go again if the health holds up.

I really feel the odd sign warning people might help also. I knew not to take the caravan but I wonder about old campervans etc! And people not used to gravel roads!!!!!

So glad we didn't know about Jacob's Ladder spida - there is no way we would have gone up there - Mount Wellington and Elephant Pass were bad enough!!!

Stay safe - when are coming back? Coming to QLD?

Back over at Easter then in Mackay by the end of June. Will call into Coacar? dam this time.  Going via Scone for a change. Havent been that way since the first trip and have a friend to visit.

The dam is Carcoar Dam, nearest town is Blayney, 50k to Bathurst from there.
We will be at Wuruma Dam in QLD then, I think, you know how things change. Looking forward to seeing you again.

went up there last july, i saw four signs at the bottom warning gravel roads, drive carefully, surface conditions change often, round the corner there were three more, big white sign saying hazard in big red letters, i'm terrified of heights but never had a problem going up there and would do it again for the pleasure of the beautiful sights.
Slow and careful no problems , loved the snow up top as well , lots of pictures.

True Pomme. I saw the signs too and had no problem with the rest of the road and also very pleased I have done it. Is probably the scariest of Aus roads I will encounter (without the caravan) so quite proud of the fact that I did it

nope.. Sorry the scariest Road I went up was the road to Treble cone in NZ... and that was in a 40 seat bus...


the Snowboarding was great thou....

Jacobs ladder was certainly interesting drive. We have done it twice not towing of course.Both times the weather was lovely.we are heading back to Tassie for work in June and return to mainland 2016.
