Paul and I would like to flat tow a Suzuki Jimny but we have heard that certain modifications need to be made to this vehicle before it can be. So my question is what type of modifications need to be done i.e. does it need a dog clutch.
Not sure about the Jimny,maybe someone on the forum will know .I would have thought that you would put both gear boxes in neutral. Just check your manual to be sure.
We flat tow a Suzuki Grand Vitara(auto) and we have to put the gear box in the park position and the transfer case in park.We do have to stop every couple of hundred KLM however
and run the engine so as to circulate the oil in the gear box.

Some years back now about 5 , we wanted to flat tow a Jiminy using a Hitch n Go A frame but they had not mastered the bar that attaches to the chassis that permanently stays there , so we went for the 2 door Grand Vitara manual 5 speed. Their are more manufacturers out there now , I would have thought they would have worked it out by now. Suzuki's vehicle manual states , use second gear and the Transfer case be put in Neutral and yes Suzuki also recommend every 300k's stop and start engine. Which is what we have done for the last 5 years and haven't had any problems. Some of the new A frames are a lot easier to hook now.

Hi Yes you do need to put a dog clutch in the rear tail shaft.It is called a "wizard" and can be fitted by most Suzuki mechanics. they shorten the tail shaft to fit this and the operating leaver comes up through the console behind the handbrake. As an alternative you can remove the rear tail shaft and drive on the front wheel drive until you need 4X4 but I have no formal qualification to tell you this is ok.

Thanks everyone for your help. Sorry it has taken a few days to get back to you all. We have called into a hitch and go supplier and they said the same as you jade46 so we have decided to go another vehicle.
I gave up on the Jimny and went with an Alto. The photo's I posted earlier were from the supplier.Suzy Sports in Loganholme Brisbane At the time Ready Brute tried to fit one to a Jimny and could not get it to work Something about the negative camber on the front end of most cars and the Jimny doesn't Not sure but they gave up and I didn't want a Hitch and Go system. This is probably not what you want to hear but in my experience the Jimny was too hard to go with and I believe the only tow system is the Hitch and Go. I hope someone else can tell me I'm wrong for your sake but that is my experience.
You can if you choose remove the rear tailshaft only 4 bolts and drive the Jimny in front wheel drive unless you need 4x4 and refit tailshaft if you do. The dog clutch is called a wizard and was about $2500 fitted 2 years ago
I would also suggest the Jimny is probably too heavy to tow with MH in the avatar It needs to be less than 1500 GVM

Sounds like it may be too hard. The GVM @ 1420kg was about right but with all the work to achieve the flat tow it may be simpler to look for an alternative vehicle.
