Getting Itchy Feet Again

Hello all,

I joined the forum in Jan 2013 before heading off on what turned into a 7 month trip.  Back at home in Tasmania atm.  Thinking of heading off in July for a few months.  North to Longreach via Dubbo, Lightning Ridge and places in between then perhaps to the coast before heading into NSW and ACT.

Would be interested to hear from others who may have covered some of this territory before with tips, advice etc or perhaps anyone interested in tagging along for all/part of the way.  Would enjoy the company.

Cheers

Wayne

Worth visiting the Warrumbungles NP for a day or two - or more. From there, Lightning Ridge is reachable the next day.

Lightning Ridge has a lot to see and do. I think it is the best of all the opal towns in Aust., by far. Also do not miss the outlying, current opal diggings area - Grawin/Glengarry/Sheepyard Flat.

Hi Tassie Tiger, We were up that way a year ago. Orange will be beautiful with Autumn colors and I believe there is a good camp out of town near a lake or dam, haven't been there yet. Highly recommend a few nights at the Gulargambone CP. lovely people, damper and pizza for happy hour around the fire. A perfect spot to go to the Warrambungles for the day. There is a cheap camping spot with power at Eumungerie Oval, 40 Kim's north of Dubbo. Lightning Ridge is great, Crocodile CP is friendly and in town and I can also recommend the CP opposite the Hot springs (a soak here is not to be missed). The Hebel pub is just over the border with good free camping and then on to St George a lovely town. Hope that helps for a start. Margaret

Thanks for all the info. Booked my passage on the Spirit of Tasmania today. Will be on the big island from July 10.

Enjoy the travel across TT but keep an eye out for any icebergs. If you see one get to the back of the ship quick smart mate.

Enjoy the big island when you get there and travel safe.
