My Auto-trail is the current model (read X290 Fiat Ducato). It is not fitted with an inbuilt GPS like the previous X250 based Auto-trails that were fitted with a head unit by Auto-trail not Fiat. Everything I have read on UK forums suggests they were of questionable quality. The current UK delivered Auto-trails are fitted with the Fiat supplied indash GPS & UK/Europe maps sets. As Fiat do not have maps for Australia/NZ available I have been told that they excluded the GPS hardware from the Australian delivered Auto-trails. So in our case there will be no fix for indash GPS as there is no GPS. I am not aware of the situation with Australian built MH's like Jaco, Avan etc. Again from what I have read the GPS that Fiat fitted in the UK was a very basic no frills unit with no option to load POI's etc. The current X290 Fiat and the earlier X250 both have difficult to read speedos. My solution to both problems is to use a Tom Tom that offers a readout on current speed compared to posted speed. This has worked well except that when closing the front windscreen Remis blinds it is necessary to take the GPS off the windscreen. I have found a bracket that uses the CD slot to mount a mobile phone so I have modified that to take my TT and while it looks like it will be ok I am yet to test it on a trip. As they say watch this space!
Neil here. I am also new to the forum but will add my name to the list of those waiting for some news from Fiat. Our 2015 Avan M8 was delivered on 1 July 2015 and the sat nav has never worked. The local dealer says it is out of his hands. We didn't bother getting the Tom Tom he offered as we had an old GPS. I think I will now request it as it looks like the inbuilt unit may never work. Is anyone proceeding with legal action? Can I join in?
I own an 2015 Auto-trail motorhome. The x250 based 2014 models had a builtin GPS supplied by AT not Fiat. The current X290 based AT's are fitted with. Fiat supplied GPS.UK delivered AT's have maps for all of Europe, however the unit according to an UK forum I read it is VERY basic unlike the better optioned aftermarket alternatives. I was provided with a Tom Tom GO60 that is ideal for my needs. The X290 dash is almost impossible to read in normal daylight as there is currently no backlighting for the speedo when headlights are off. My TT has indicated speed so it is easy to stay within the speed limit by watching the TT. Initially I mounted the unit on the front windscreen, however it did suffer from sun glare and was difficult to read. Additionally I needed to remove it from the windscreen every time I wanted to close the Remis blind. The solution I found was to purchase a phone bracket that fits into the CD slot. Once modified to suit the TT it works a treat. The glare is gone, it stays connected and I know what speed I am doing. The only negative I have found is a slight vibration when travelling down bumpy backroads. Certainly he positives outweigh the one downside. The attached images may assist
Cheers, Gary.
I'm in exactly the same boat, except my dealer said a fix would be developed soon. Now they tell me there is no fix and Avida were no help. I'm taking my complaint to the Ombudsman.
Hinterland Motorhomes did the same to me, and tried to tell me no one has complained. I was advised to make a complaint to the Ombudsmen, I spoke to a solicitor and was advised a class action could be taken.
Yes I have been through Fair Trading and was told they could do nothing for me even though Hinterland Motorhomes lied to me.
They suggested we go through QCAT and sue them. If enough people go after them we will eventually will win. Certainly suggest to your friends buy elsewhere other than Hinterland Motorhomes and keep away from the service manger Adrew Bart .
Same for me, just taken delivery of a Avan on a fiat and yes no Australian Maps, I have finally got a sort of response from Robert Lawson (resolutions Desk officer) 1300133079 I am sure the more of us that complain must make a difference
Heard that Fiat are updating to Aust maps on the GPS and are sending letters to all people affected. We are away at the moment. Does anybody know if this is true or not
Dave
It seems that Fiat is proceeding with organising for Australian Maps to be installed on the Fiat Ducato Motorhomes from 2015 onwards. This has been validated by many people on Facebook forums who have received letters and have booked in with Fiat dealers to organise this. We re also away at the moment, however noticed the many postings on Facebook forums. Great news!
