Thank you Weevil, for caring, and taking an interest our travels.
SATURDAY 13/06/15
I am sitting in Miss Daisy on because if I go outside I am likely to get carried away by the millions of flys that live in this area. We are currently parked up at Denny Lookout, a free camp that is huge and has the most magnificent outlook. It is a huge gorge that would have once been the sea bed I am guessing. The cliff faces are red sandstone, rocky outcrops that give a character to the area. It could almost be a mini Grand Canyon. It is scattered with gum trees and wildflowers that are just starting to bloom. The sky is the vivid blue that only happens in the outback and gives rise to the red soil of the ground and acts as a backdrop to the different greens that make up the leaves on the gums and tea trees.
I know I keep repeating myself, and I am going to say it again, I feel so blessed and privileged to be living the lifestyle that I am. I have the freedom to travel where the road takes me and to stay for as long as time as I want. No hurry, no rush, no real need to be anywhere in particular. Kick back and enjoy the country that I am in and try to take in the vastness of it all.
We have spent four days in Liester, a mining town set up by BHP. The CP was wonderful, only $20pn and it was a great chance to catch up on all the washing and cleaning. I also needed to lay low for a few days as I was not at all well. We were going to go yesterday, but once I was up and about for a an hour or so I hit the deck again. This turned out to be a wonderful decision for a couple of reasons. I was able to completely recover from whatever it was that I had, after sleeping for about 3 hours yesterday afternoon. We also met the most beautiful people.
A couple had pulled in next to Fran, Sue and John, they are lovely and certainly a lot of fun to be with. Another chap camped near us, Gary, joined us for drinks and he was lovely also. Turns out he had been a Pro Golfer on the Asian circuit for some years, living in Singapore, and also a prospector. He was generous enough to show us some of the gold that he had found. We were all surprised at how heavy it was. The smallest little pieces had quite some weight to them.
After going to the Mess Hall with Sue and John for dinner, the night turned out to be quite a long one, with many laughs and a few drinks enjoyed by all. The number of subjects that get covered around a happy hour is amazing and the things one learns about life and the world is always entertaining.
So we moved on again as I said and for the next couple of days we have buddied up with Sue and John. They have the most amazing caravan, it comes complete with a sundeck. This folds out of the front of the caravan, has fly screens and wooden decking. It is really amazing. Afternoon drinks there out of the way of all the flys.
Having had lunch, cooked my flathead fillets and salad the afternoon is looking to one of R&R, and let the world just quietly slip on by. The quietness is sublime, the feel of the area is one of total relaxation and just being at one with the world.
I would implore everyone to take some time out and go to a place you have not been before, even if it is the park around the corner, sit and take in the colours and sounds. You never know you may just see and feel something that you have not before.
SUNDAY 14/06/15
What a wonderful day yesterday turned out to be. After an afternoon nap, there were many photo ops to take as the sun started to set on our surrounds. There were another three caravans pull in and this made for a great camp fire Happy Hour.
One gentleman had a guitar and whilst he was singing in the distance he did not bring it to the fire with him. It was shame because he had a great voice, however from what we could gather he had only started to play again after a health scare.
The night went on until after 9 , the skies were once again lit up with diamonds in the sky. I am amazed at how over here the stars that are usually easy to spot are in a different place on the dark sky. Still seeing the curvature of the earth.
One chap who had parked up behind Fran, had a generator running all day and night. We did not see them at all. It makes me wonder Why???? Number one, go and park away from people if all they have is a generator and number two, it is beyond me how people can be on the road, arrive somewhere as special as here and then spend all their time inside. I must admit we probably spent more time inside that normal because of the flys. Still it takes all kinds and that is what makes this kind of life so interesting.
This morning seen the sunrise at some point. I did not get to see it, slept in. I will try for the morning. Fran and I have decided to stay another night, even though all others have moved on this morning.
The day has been perfect weather, and just as we were both cleaning our MH's, Gary the prospector from Leister arrived, he is on the way to somewhere else to see if he can find more gold. So morning tea with Gary before he headed on his way, and now there are just the two of us again. The quietness and peacefulness of this area has descended upon us again.
We will go hunting and gathering later for wood to have a fire again tonight. Nothing like sitting out in the open by a fire, contemplating life and the world.
An afternoon of hunting and gathering found a little wood for us to have a small fire tonight. Once again sitting outside with our friendly flys we witnessed another wonderful sunset. The sun setting in the cloudless sky allowed for the rock face to change colour spectacularly tonight and I managed to capture some of the colour change. I am loving my tripod with the camera, make for the photos to much clearer and set up in a very different way.
They sky took on the colours of pink and purple, with the clouds being paint stroked across the sky. It looked like wings or a feather out to the South and to the West and North, the clouds took on the look of fiery stepping stones right to the setting sun. Love this time of night and trying to capture the colours and images that surround us out here in the wilderness.
We were a little naughty tonight. A couple pulled in in their caravan, and proceeded to put their radio on full blast, obviously listening to the football. Well I do wish they had put in their hearing aids as the whole country did not want to hear it, well we didn't anyway. Fran went and got the CD player and we put on some older rock tunes, turned up the volume, and proceeded to sing and dance around the camp fire. We had a good time and eventually they turned down the radio and we turned down our music. I know this sounds petty, however when out free camping there are unwritten rules that one is expected to follow. Actually they are not even rules, just common courteosity. No generators going all hours of the day and night, if you need that go and park away from everybody else. No loud radios or television, once again if you have left your hearing aids at home, go and park away from others, particularly when there is a large camp site and it is virtually empty.
My gripe for the day. Now settle in for an early evening and we will probably head off again tomorrow for parts unknown.
