Colouring in for Adults.

This is a new hobby that is becoming very popular. You can buy the books from all good bookstores, KMart, Target, BigW etc etc.

The one I have is called Birds and Butterflies Colouring for Mindfulness. They have all different names and are used for relaxation and stress relief. You can also buy them on line or print them off from a site who has a great range.

I will take photos when I finish any and pop up here.

Has anyone else seen these?

Yes have seen them in Big W and Target, also on web sites of some of the major booksellers.
Heard a program on ABC couple of weeks ago, where a scientist was saying that research on the brain does back up the idea that colouring in reduces stress, etc. Apparently it changes the brain waves and the effects can be measured.

I think colouring in must be great for our brains, just totally focused on one thing, I for one will be buying one.

About 5 years ago I said to a friend, I wish I could draw so I could put together a colouring book and pencils for us adults, boxed set, so the kids have no idea and can't nick off with the pencils. She laughed.

Nice work if you did that Muz.

Why thank you. I was feeling very downcast and anxious when I started to do that. It took me a few days to complete. Once I was finished I felt terrificly relaxed. It is a great way of getting your brain unknotted.

My wife took up this recently and sits for hours doing these amazing intricate pictures, think it must be addictive, she even ordered some special fine point marker things from the US (Amazon) as she was not happy with normal coloured pencils or felt tips.

Lovely work!

I was looking at books in Big W yesterday, but I made myself walk away and will not buy one until I finish the 4 crotchet projects I have under way.

Keep posting your lovely pictures.

I use good colour pencils or gel pens Chris. Have an assortment of different brands.

Thanks for that Happywanderer

Have now started  and am totally hooked. Have just bought a book that has really delicate spaces a real challenge. I have also bought some coloured pens with a very fine nib.

Cheers Chris

I have just completed Microbiology as a subject for a degree I am doing. I'm a visual learner and have struggled with boring lectures.

I was able to buy an adult Microbiology colouring book, which also provides written subject matter. So, a great combination of learning while relaxing.

My wife has just had a knee replacement (10 days ago) and a few days post op her brother came to visit bringing her a colouring book and a packet of pencils . My son and I both thought this was a great lark at the time .
We no longer think that , great therapy .
