Sellers beware... a new ( ? ) scam on the block.

Ok..not sure if this is the right category for this post, but I'm sure Admin can sort that out.

It involves sellers so that's why I've put it here.

I have my caravan up for sale due to bad health putting an abrupt halt on our travels. I received a reply from a KYRA GREEN....  stated she wanted our van at the asking price. I offered to send more pics, etc... not interested. I did have an allowance included for delivery, but she stated she had her own driver to collect the van.

I told her payment could be arranged by direct debit into my bank account, yet she wanted to do it through PayPal as she said her bank account was linked to Paypal anyway. Thank God I only gave her my BSB and Acc #...  the bank has informed me they cant gain any access other than to deposit through those numbers.

I repeatedly asked her where she was located... no answer.

I then received a letter of notification from Paypal that an amount had been deposited to my Paypal account, which included $ 950 extra to the van price to cover her drivers fee.  It LOOKED genuine... all the logos and active links were there.... BUT it then asked me to pay the $ 950 through Western Union BEFORE they'd transfer the remaining funds to my account. That rang a bell. as I remembered that Paypal state that they NEVER ask you to pay to a 3rd person.... I sent the email to Paypal and they verified it as fake...

Two days later, I received again what looked like an official Paypal email, threatening legal action if I did not uphold the contract between myself and KYRA GREEN.... it was VERY convincing until I actually rang Paypal to discuss it.. it was yet another attempt to make me think I was in trouble.

So, if you have anything for sale on Ebay, Gumtree or any other site, be VERY aware that there are mongrels out there trying to get your cash.

Stay aware, and happy travels.... I am extremely jealous now that I've had to stop.

I recently heard there are fake PayPal accounts. Be careful purchasing items directly from the internet because you never know who owns that PayPal account.
Once they have your money, they vanish into thin air.

I have an item for sale here and on Gumtree and got a reply from both. The one here is no problem but unfortunately the delivery cost was nearly as dear as the item due to the weight and size so a no go. Not sure how ebay sellers can deliver things so cheap.

The one on Gumtree is closer and I have agreed to take to them and they will pay into my bank a/c. I also checked with the bank and it is safe as mentioned above so am doing it that way. No delivery untill I see the $$$$$ in my bank though disbeliefno

Yes I have paid by direct deposit for items on gumtree but they state only do transactions face to face as it is extremely full of scam merchants. I was looking for a later 2nd hand iphone, I had done my homework on what has to be done for me to check said phone before handing over cash.

So I pick a phone that is what I am after and he wants to meet at an intersection not at his place, No problems as long as it works. So he turns up on a motor bike with the phone and says here it is where is the money. I tell him no money is changing hands till it works with my sim installed. You guessed it even though he said it wasn't locked to a provider it would not work with my sim, He seemed baffled but I told him I'm not interested.

He said he would get it sorted and ring later that day, Never heard from him again. Now if that was paid for and delivered by post I would have lost my money so be very careful.

Cheers Allan

These people make me sick, the old days of a genuine buyer are few far between. It's interesting to read this as my husband is selling his motorbike & I suspect a scam, the guy won't say where he lives/ comes from which is very odd & he said that someone would pick it up not even going to come look at it, & it's not a $2 item ?? I think we will be doing some further investigation.

I've had a couple of "buyers" claiming to be working off shore and wanted the goods freighted for "Dad's birthday present/ready for themto use immediately they return from off shore". The first was a semi off road camper trailer with solar- the 2nd was an Audi A6 sedan. People should not confuse my friendliness with foolishness. My language become quite colourful. Pay the freight and it will be reimbursed they said. Genuine looking Paypal dockets. It's an old scam- been around a while. Caveat Emptor folks- it works both ways (for the buyer and the seller). If in doubt, Google the nature of the scam and if it is an identified one, it should show up. Hell, I worked too hard to give my money away!

The Scammers will email you a fake Paypal receipt showing they have paid the money into Paypal then asking you to ship the item. I wonder how many have been caught. When I have encountered this rort on Gumtree etc, I send them a nice email saying " If you want to buy the f#@&%ng xxxx come to my house with cash money and you can take it away, otherwise

f%@k off"....

I almost got caught, there was an Classified advert in the paper. When ringing the number, I had to leave a message,  I received a text message back they sent me a lovely email with pic's and all of the Item to be purchased. They said they would rather use their Ebay account,  No money would need to be transferred until I was happy and received the item. They sent an Ebay account transfer authority form. Yep it was a scam. Reported it to scam watch, giving telephone numbers etc. but haven't heard anything.
