The mention of those waterholes .. Caliguel Lagoons - looked them up in Explore Australia .. brings back great memories of my youth. Of course we didn't know the name of the 'Lagoons' in those days.
I first camped there in around 1959 after hitch hiking from Ipswich.
We met up with a local grazier (Andy Dohle) who took us up to his nearby property to stay in an empty house there.
For many years after that we would visit him in our holidays & look after the property as he took off to his holiday home at Shorncliffe (Brisbane).
Just loved chasing Roos, pigs & foxes mounted on his racehorses. (Condamine Lass was one of his country gallopers that I recall). He wanted us to ride off their grass belly while he was away .. enough said.
