We are presently staying in a caravan park outside of Mackay. After paying $50 a night at some parks we decided to look for a cheapie for a few nights. We found this one for $160 a week but then found that there was a main road and bridge 200 hundred metres in front a train track 200 metres beside us and an Abottoir across the road!! However decided to stay anyhow, Have found the amenities amazing - access to an ensuite for everyone, nice soft toilet paper and so squeeky clean!!! We have gotten used to the noise and even the slight smell. It's called The Mad Cow at Bakers Creek and we would recommend it if you think you could cope with the negatives?
We were wondering if anyone could suggest a cheap park between Bowen and Cairns? We are heading off there this Thursday.
Hello there briglor, welcome to the team, enjoy it all and stay safe out there, can't help you with your enquiry but wikcamps app will, or other members on this site will give you some ideas.
When the power of Love becomes greater than the love of power the World will see peace ! 24ft Trailblazer 5th wheeler n 05 Patrol ute and Black Series Dominator camper trailer ( for the rough stuff)
Thank you everyone for your warm welcome and thank you for your tips and suggestions.
For the ladies - if you are looking for a good and reasonably priced hairdresser in Mackay I would recommend "Streaks Ahead", the Gas Works, Shop 5, 137 Shakespeare Street, Mackay. I had been wanting to get Streaks and a trim for weeks, but was quoted anything from $100-$185 - these were mainly In shopping Malls. Needless to say I gave them a miss. I was able to get them done for $60 at "Streaks Ahead" and I am thrilled with the result. Hope this will help some of you ladies on the road.
Lots of midgies (spelling??) here on the creek at Mackay - anybody got any idea how to avoid them??
Thanks Doug - hope we get to wave to you too, on our way up to Cairns.
Incidentally we are a bit concerned - we have noticed so many vans coming back south whilst we are headed north - is it going to be too hot or rainy up there in Sept-October??
Gloria, most people that head north for winter start to head south around September. It is hot though, already, nudging 30's during the day and low to mid 20's at night with humidy. In Townsville anyway and where I am propt for the night at Home Hill. Very hot as we speak.
Cyclone and the wet season are just around the corner too.
