being a person who has limited hearing (from jet deafness) I wear hearing aids and have other appliances to enhance my communications.
I made an enquire regarding SWMBO (also a pensioner) who is going slowly deaf as well.
This may be old news, but I discovered that anyone on the aged pension can get free basic hearing aids and appliances designed to make life a bit easier, I have a pair of senheiser stethoscope type headphones for TV listening free, these I'm told can be given to pensioners who have a hearing deficit as well. Thank you tax payers.
Cheers

I have a hearing impairment and have the Government aids. I haven't heard about an aid for the TV. Where would I enquire about that? Where I get my hearing aids?
Hi Phil,
I have severe deafness, and have all the problems with hearing that go with that. I notice you are using stethoscope type headphones. I only use "Over the ear" type head phones, as part of your hearing is bone conduction of the scull. I find that by using over the ear type headphones, I hear much more because of this.
I suffer badly from domestic deafness - at least that is what SWMBO says. My mum is tiny and the Govt aids are too big. So she had to get smaller ones that are only issued to children. As she is not a child, she had to pay full price. Go figure.
Have half an hour ago inquired re these TV listening devices being available to us hard-of-hearing old codgers as a result of these posts. My hearing specialist tells me if you a a Veteran Affairs client with a Gold Card you can obtain both hearing aides and the TV hearing devices free. If you are merely an aged pensioner, you can obtain one or the other. And for mine, that is fair enough. No quibble from me; and the Veterans deserve whatever they can obtain.
Sorry to have taken so long to reply, we have been on a cruise outside Australia.
To clarify; I am a gold card holder from vets so I guess the TV device and hearing aids do come together. I'm not sure about other pensioners getting both, from what my audiologist told me they do, then again I could be mistaken. However it's worth the ask.
Cheers
