Lead Crystal Batteries

LEAD CRYSTAL BATTERIES in Australia.
Lead Crystal® batteries are designed for harsh environments. Working in temperatures above +65°C and down to -40C they can be discharged down to 0 volts and recovered daily without loss of capacity while retaining the ability to recharge twice as fast as traditional Lead Acid variants. At -40C the LC battery can provide up to 50% of the original rated capacity and at +40C will achieve seven years service life.
99% Recyclable/Greener/Safer
Easy Transport - no special conditions
Faster Recharging - up to twice as fast as Lead Acid
Greater Cyclic Life - 6000 cycles to 20%, over 1600 to 80% DOD
Reduced Maintenance
High and Low Operating Temperatures: -40C to +65C
Long Battery Life - up to 18 years float service life
Form, Fit, Function replacement for VRLA, AGM & GEL battery range. I heard about these so checked Google with (www.alphaenergy.com.au

Cheers Kev.

) very interesting as same Weight as Lead Type & AGM's, can be Discharged close to 0 volts and Charge twice as fast as Leads. Phoned for price of 12 volt x 100Ah and quoted $607. If capable of what the specs say should only need half the capacity already being used. Another new Technology available.

Interesting reading Kev thanks for the link.

I compared my current batch of 120aH bats with their specs.

One apparent (I think) drawback for me is the initial charging current of 36A @14.7V.

My solar panels 480W will only put out 28A at best so could be a problem there for us.

I couldn't see a cost anywhere.

As long as you can set controller to the correct charging voltage, the battery will accept what your panels will put out. It doesn't matter that it's not the maximum charge current, it just means it won't charge in the absolute minimum time.

 Hi Kev,

Thanks for posting that. It sounds too good to be true, so what's that old adage "if it's ---etc etc---?'

I am happy for someone to buy them and report in 18 years time or even 10. I am too careful with my hard earned money to try them I am afraid. hmm I like to buy things that have been proven by use in the real world not just in a factory or uni lab (or not anywhere even) furious

Anyone can write BS in a sales spin. Not saying it is here but where have they been up to now !!confuse

Jaahn

They're not the cheapest supplier, but the price from RS Components appears to be around $9 per ampere-hour.

Unfortuneately you have no control over quality,, is it 1st grade or 3rd grade product,,, has it passed QA checks or been rubber stamped

a few years ago I was going to make my own tailor made solar panels to suit a specific size on roof of truck,,, I couldn't get a guarantee that the mono cells we 1st grade - the manufacturer made 3 grades to suit selling price regime

just my opinion
