Ford Territory awd diesel overheating

Was driving up Thunderbolts way from Gloucester to Walcha with 2.3 tonne van and Ford really struggled and the temp guage went from always under half to three quarters. This has never happened but never climbed over 1000 metres . Got its second wind once we got over the steep climb. Is this normal? On the road and concerned thanks for advice !

Yep, in the temps we had around here today

I would say your auto trans is getting warm which warms the engine coolant as well

you could try going up these sorts of hills a bit slower and in a lower gear so the drive line is not working so hard.

You may also need to consider an additional trans cooler.

Hi Ronzo,

Save your transmission oil burning.

Pull over and put in park / nutral with hand brake on and let idel for ten minutes with the bonnet up  to let the heat out. Helps cool your transmission oil down.
