Hi, ready to join you all in faraway places

Hi. Colin from Perth. Retired a year ago with around three thousand hours a year to use up. And it feels so great to not be on a time clock any more. smile Hence the caravan.

  • Land Cruiser 4.2l GXL TD 100 series, well set up for long towing
  • Trailcraft Panorama 540 Dirtroad (18'6")
  • Total inexperience in what to do no

With creaky joints and other issues I don't know how long me and mine will be capable of living a little rough. I think, maybe, to travel at least as far as I have on my unicycle. Hmm, so how long does it take to drag a caravan 50,000km around the bush? (Point of interest - Looking at this forum, there seems to be no shortage of unicylists in this demographic.)

Immediate travel intentions are

  • Head out in a  few weeks on a couple of short trips, just to get some habits, iron out problems and see where the dust comes into the van
  • After that I will be checking out by myself the realities of water rationing, battery life, solar recharge rates and wind and dust over three weeks free-camping at the Kulin Racetrack. I'll be helping build an event there for a few of thousand people many decades younger than me and then staying for the party.
  • And then the first biggy of, hopefully, many: Leave from Perth to Ulluru via the Great Central Road. Then a look at Cober Pedy on the way down to Adelaide to check on my brother. We intend to make up our own little convoy with his A-Liner and head somewhere not too far for a day or two before me and mine turn for home via the Eyre Highway.
