Thanks Paul, It says use stainless steel plate but l was wondering just for the ease of drilling the holes if I could use aluminium? I know aluminium is more temperature conductive than steel so was more concerned the plate would get too hot.

Also wondering did anyone set theirs up and run it say on a bench before they installed it?

I used the steel plate that came with our Planer diesel heater from Pinnacle wholesalers here in Ballarat.

I installed our Eberspaecher D2 in our 'van using the base plate supplied in the kit and I don't believe there was any heat transfer to the floor.

Ours was mounted on the vinyl floor which was glued to the timber floor and if there was any heat transfer over a period of time I would have smelt it.

Certainly there was none in the test period after the install which was about an hour or more from memory.

I would always start a new circuit back at the 12 volt fuse box of the van.

This is what I originally did when I fitted ours.

After awhile the flickering of the lights for the couple minutes every time I fired it up annoyed me enough to run a dedicated power supply from the battery.

No more flickering.

Thank you one and all, I will run to the main supply now for my power, I am leaning for piece of mind to set up and run on bench to see just how much heat is transferred to the base plate. ( I have a bit of scrap aluminium) . I didn't get a mounting plate with the unit as always intended to use aluminium till someone sowed the seed of doubt ?
