We're slowly getting ourselves organised to retire from the workforce (ie. the ratrace) and hit the road in our caravan, in around a year or maybe two. Thanks to a chunk of my super we've got our van and tug - a 25 ft Designer Vans offroad caravan and a 2015 200 series TTD landcruiser. We have taken the rig out on a few small trips over the past year to get the feel of how things are done, and slowly get things sorted out and modified to suit. It was a bit nervy at first getting used to driving such a large outfit however after a few trips the experience really settled the nerves and did us a world of good. It also helped to really get to know both the caravan and the tug. With every little trip we are gaining more and more in experience and confidence. I've also done a lot of reading, books, mags and on the net, to learn from others who have been there and done that.
Looking forward to meeting as many of you as we can. That happy hour can't come soon enough!!

And it's welcome from us two 2 glad you have done some practice driving may I also suggest that a uhf radio should be on your must have list if it's not already along with good mirrors .
Up top here is a search button there is lots of good info already on here but if you can't find the answer you are looking for ask away in the most appropriate forum lots of knowledge here also a few cheeky jokers some times so watch out for them especially one warring a pink shirt although I don't know that personally as I haven't met him yet .

Yeah agree Woody, UHF very important in case we get stuck somewhere remote and may need assistance. Also I read one is also useful to communicate with truckies and also other vanners. So we got one installed in the tug early on. Also I replaced the cruiser's mirrors with Clearview towing mirrors. This in fact was the first job I did myself on the landcruiser, and in the process managed to put the first scratch on the vehicle's inside. Well after dancing around for 4 or 5 mins swearing and cursing I reconciled that there'll be many more scratches by the time we've been around Aus around and back and forth a few times, so what the heck, no worries.
