Am in the process of getting a new tow vehicle and am wondering if it's better to get a tray fitted and then the canopy on top of that or to get the canopy with the floor fitted? If I get a canopy with the floor fitted what happens to the original tray body? Any advice appreciated.
G,day Sundance, Why not have both, Get it with a tray of your choice, Then get an aluminium complete canopy made to fit, the type you can jack on and off, you leave all
camping gear in it ready to go. Then you still have the ute to use as a ute. Their not as expensive as you might think

The trays often come up on eBay or auctions . Sometimes insurance companies buy them or panel beaters ? There where about 20 at our local pic and pay .,
Ah different question, as you can buy a ute - cab/chassis. So if you buy a cab chassis, then a tray is fitted and you can get a removable canopy, or buy one that has a floor built in and bolts on in place of the tray (my canopy has a floor built in but goes on top of the tray).
When you buy a well body ute, they remove the well body, stack it up out the back with the others, waiting for the scrap metal merchant to pick it up, then they fit the goods on the back that you choose.
One thing to consider here, and that is weight. My canopy is just basic, but weighs 140kg. When you are watching every kg taken on board, that a lot of kgs just sitting not doing much, and I wonder if I would have been better off getting a well body with a good quality fiberglass canopy top. A nicer looking vehicle and probably about $3000 less in cost.
The advantage I have with this removable canopy is much more secure storage and full access from each side.
