Connecting our Vast set top box

Hi All,

The van is almost complete. I still have to install the Vast set top box in the cuboard below the TV. My Question is this.1. Is it best to wire it back to the house battery with its own inline Fuse holder. Or 2. Can I cheat and piggy back off the existing wiring from the TV or Radio.confuse

Regards Jim

G'day Jim

A VAST box will only pull around 5 amps max so piggy back it to some existing wiring.

Hi Frank,

Yes I am thinking the same as I did not go though the exercise of removing all the cladding for two extra wires.

If you have the choice then take it off the radio wiring as you would be unlikely to have radio & tv on at the same time.

If you don't want troubles down the track, don't use the Scotchlock power thieves. They are described as "Wire Taps" on this page. I have had too much trouble with them in the past.

Hi PeterD,

No way, I like to do a neat and tidy job. I use double Heat shrink  and  silver solder all my work.

I will post tomorrow the finished job of my Planner Diesel heater/ tank installation with some photo's. Looks the goods.smile

Hi all,

Well it just got a whole lot easyer. I open the cuboard door and took it off total, to make access far easyer. Up under and out of view a double power point.smile the vast set has both 240- 12v transformer + 12v cigerette plug.

The TV is connected to a 12V cigertte plug now. It to has a 240-12V transformer.smile All I need is another twin 12V adapter and I should be in business.smilesmilesmile

The down side is my fusion radio is ready to leave the buildingnonono it is supported, and I mean supported only by a piece of dowl not affixed to.nonono To two small screws holding it to the cabinet total. A kid could do a better JOB. Pis.... Poor.no
