Just a note to say Hi! The Boss and I are not nomads yet,but plans are on the move by Xmas 2016. I'm looking for some strong opinions as the task of the right rig...caravan or mobile home is starting to become a reality.
Firstly and most important, welcome to this great forum
There are many friendly people here with a vast knowledge base, who willingly give advice when asked
My interpretation of your question is, you are looking for some strong opinions on what type of travelling vehicle is the right rig for you, in regards to caravan verses motorhome
Unfortunately, as we are all different, that is why there are different types of travelling vehicles.
My first long distance travelling was done in an old caravan, towed by a normal 6 cylinder sedan car, I adapted to this rig, and had an enjoyable time.
My long distance travelling is now done in a motorhome.
It was purchased because the better half, wanted room for the cat to walk around, rather than it being on a short harness, strapped to the back seatbelt, of a sedan car.
I have adapted to this rig, and once again, have an enjoyable time while travelling
The best advice I can give, (I am not a full time experienced traveller, others may give better advice), if you are unsure what to buy, is to perhaps hire a caravan/motorhome, on different weekends, and just see how it suits you
Regardless what you end up buying, I wish you safe and happy travelling in the playground
Welcome to the gang David1464, enjoy here and out in the playground.
Your question is really a personal choice one and one I personally don't like giving advice/suggestions about on a open forum.
I will tell you how I started out though.
After the loss of my son then my wife I decided to do what my wife and I talked about doing when I retired so I started out looking at 5th wheelers as that is what we were talking about, felt they were too big for me now I am solo. I ended up getting something the size of a 5ths toilet, a Avan Sportliner Camper Trailer. Yep a lot smaller but had great times in that. I spent 8 months of each year for 3 years out in the playground.
Mid 2014 after a few tug dramas and other things I decided to update the tug and den, sell base camp and become a full time Grey Nomad, yep that fitted me well as full of grey hair :) Being in the playground for those 8 months at a time I learnt heaps so had a pretty good idea of what I needed to be comfy. I now travel in what is listed below in my signature and love both the tug and den.
Oh! I am still learning by the way :)
Keep Safe on the roads.
