Just wondering whether anyone has fitted an internal alarm ( with motion sensor) as wife slightly paranoid when we leave our van at free camping areas to either go sight-seeing or play golf and gone for most of the day.
After speaking to a few groups along the Murray who have had items stolen externally and what appeared to be attempted entry into the vans this may seriously dampen the wife's enthusiasm to free camp. Which in turn would bump up the weekly expense if caravan parks are then the full order of the week or we just don't leave the van the days we free camp.

Low life don't just steal from free camps, there have been a spate of thefts from the caravan parks. I've ordered some "rape" alarms and will attach them to desirable objects so if they get moved they will scream and can't be turned off unless the pin is reinserted. Also have a number of stainless steel slings to padlock the items to the van.
Although not fitted yet . I have home camera security kit to install . At present I have two dash camera with plenty of storage . Other than beep from movement sensor ? Things locked up ? There's not much else ? Other than Rottweiler, brown snake or Galgher cattle electric fence ??

I purchased one of those alarms, not expensive and easy to install, that runs on battery which screams when contact broken when door is opened....fitted just above entrance door...with the 'contact' screwed into the door top...when door is shut contact is maintained...when door is opened it will scream after about 20 seconds if correct 4 digit code is not inserted immediately......
Its enough to scare the beejezus out of anyone who manages to open/lever the door while we are away...or at least raise unwanted attention for them.....
Bunnings have them for cheap form of house door security however works on the caravan door as well..being a tricky dicky by nature....I also put another that is not connected but flashes lights and is the real deal if it was set....this one is prominent...soooo if they get in the door that is the one they will see and hopefully they would attempt to disarm/destroy it, whilst the real one continues to scream its head off.....I figure likely would be kids or juveniles..amateurs...that would try their luck on my van anyway.....nothing will stop professionals....
The problem with motion sensors is we could not leave our little pooch in the van for short periods like we do from time to time...he just sleeps till we get back.....
Another option for cheap security to consider....it works ..just don't forget your 4 digit number... Hoo Roo

Absolutely understand and your right about pooch as our little bloke accidentally got run over and killed by one of my customers a year ago and not only do I miss my shadow he would have been a great alarm.
Would definitely have frightened the be Jesus out of any crook.
Will certainly look at the alarm and lock situation. I do already have a couple of quality motorbike alarm locks for out side equipment etc was more concerned about the van and attachments.

You really should think about what happens if you have an unstoppable siren alarm fitted and it goes off by itself whilst you are away for the day. The consequences could be embarrassing.
My movement sensor just beeps twice Enough to let people know we have equipment to know they are there .. Plus obvious cameras .. These can / are turned off when required . We try not to leave anything worth taking in the first place ..
Try one of these with a doormat censor with 10 second delay with remote. Baking dog alarm EBay. get the Jack Russel barker. My bother inlaw got one from the USA.
No one is going to open your door after standing on your door mat for 10 seconds. Not cheap.
Thanks Dennis for the advice but wouldn't install an alarm that didn't shut off and reset after 30 seconds as its really only designed to frighten them away and alert neighbours that something is wrong or a break in is occurring RIGHT NOW.

Alarm is only as good as the people hearing dong something other than complain about the noise . If your free camping and leave the sight of your gear then it becomes fair game to the low life's around . Never leave anything outside unless you have it wired to the wheel or some part of the van. I have senor lights on the outside of the van and two huge dog dishes one water one food with a name like butch on it seems to keep the night life at bay . Also if you have an external door lock like those hooks take it off the low life's will lock you in and there's nothing you can do while they load up and bolt with your gear . As for pulling up when other are there is no guarantee of safety either you could be camping in a hornets nest .
I really don't know what the answer is but I do believe the risk is low

I dont have an alarm but bought generic "Security Alarm Fitted" stickers and have placed them on every window and door. If they want to get in I guess they will but figured that most breakins are opportunistic so its just a preventative. Hears hoping.
If you have a sensor on the door that goes into alarm when the contact is broken (a reed switch), just know that these are easily bypassed with a magnet. Stick a strip in front of the connection to prevent this.
